How’s that saying go, if Democrats didn’t have double standards, they wouldn’t have any standards at all? Or, the other one, do as I say, not as I do
On the Spot (CNSNews.com) – Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) supports government efforts to cap U.S. carbon emissions in the cause of controlling global warming.
“I think it’s part of a larger clean-up,†Stabenow told CNSNews.com. “We need a strategy for low carbon, yes.â€
But Stabenow admits she doesn’t take public transportation to work, she drives to Capitol Hill.
“I drive a Cadillac STS, it’s a small car,†she added.
The STS averages 16 miles per gallon in the city, 26 miles per gallon highway, according to General Motors and FuelEfficiency.gov–a joint Web site of the U.S. Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency.
Billy Mays is on hand. “But wait, there’s more!”
Stabenow, who represents Michigan, the home of the American automobile industry, said she thinks that people who support a limit on carbon emissions should drive American fuel-efficient cars.
“I want people to support American fuel-efficient vehicles,†she told CNSNews.com.
But, like most Climahysterics, she is a complete hypocrite. I wonder what Frank Lautenburg (D-NJ) has to say
But Lautenberg also said he doesn’t believe that most of his Senate colleagues use fuel-efficient means to get to the Capitol.Â
“I think it is rare among these people. I don’t see people suddenly switching to fuel-efficient cars, if their current car is running well,†he told CNSNews.com.
Hey, look, I am all for increasing fuel milage. I would have thought some progress would have been made in the years between when I bought my last one (a 1997 Honda CRV with 37K I bought in 2001) and now (a 2006 Jeep Liberty with 10K on it, roughly similar milage to Stabenow’s Caddy.) Alas, not really. Unless one wants to drive I micro mobile death trap. But, legislators enacting legislation that will jack up costs on everything when they themselves do not walk the talk is, well, nuts. I’ll listen to environmentalists and AGW believers if they are living the life. The rest? They need to go peddle it elsewhere.
Maybe someone can ask Henry Waxman what’s going on……huh? He doesn’t even know what is in his own bill?
Preach it, brother Pirate!
I get consistent abuse from some family and friends for driving my old Subaru while they’re off exploring the wonder of hybrids. I usually point out that 1) it’s been paid for over ten years, 2) it still gets 25-30 per tank, which is better than their non-hybrids that they also drive, and 3) they’re only kvetching because it has a sticker in the window that says: Charter Member, Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy.
Auto Mileage and Cost Savings?…
I’ve just started looking around this morning, and the post from Michelle Malkin was the first of many I expect to find on the new CAFE regulations announce. It references this Yahoo News article.
President Barack Obama’s new fuel and emi…
I would have liked to keep the CRV, it was all paid off, still ran like a champ. But, big probs with the back suspension and some paint. Oh, well.
Of course, the gov may force us all to drive micro mobiles shortly.
hybrids are the way to go if you must buy new. The newest Prius is rated at 50 mpg As for the window sticker hwo quaint ! I am old enough to remember when it really was vast, now not so vast.
Interesting comment on the hybrid as a must. My next car (like my current ones) will have to make it over the mountains in OR 2-3 times a month, where in winter you get boatloads of snow. We also heavily traffic mountain roads in the summer to hike where we need high clearance. Oh, and we tow stuff quite a bit. If a small hybrid SUV can tow 2500 lbs. and clear 6″-8″, I’ll be all for it. Otherwise, another Subaru. Cars are based on use, and I’ll pick the best mileage, longevity, and cost for my use. I love living in America! Well, for now…
What gets me, John, is how MPG has almost gotten worse over the past 20 years or so. I remember back in the 80’s when it was a concern, and advertisements made a big deal out of MPG. Now, they tend to be about how cool a car is, and how many cupholders they have. Rather sad.
One of the vehicles I had been looking at was the Ford Escape Hybrid, but, was a bit costly, and wasn’t quite sure of the cost for charging it. Why buy a hybrid if it will cost more?
