Just remember, climate change can mean hot, cold, wet, dry. Basically, anything they want in order to support the Religion Of AGW, of which Al Gore is the high priest
Argentina’s Perito Moreno glacier is one of only a few ice fields worldwide that have withstood rising global temperatures.
Nourished by Andean snowmelt, the glacier constantly grows even as it spawns icebergs the size of apartment buildings into a frigid lake, maintaining a nearly perfect equilibrium since measurements began more than a century ago.
“We’re not sure why this happens,” said Andres Rivera, a glacialist with the Center for Scientific Studies in Valdivia, Chile. “But not all glaciers respond equally to climate change.”
Actually, not all that many glaciers have been fully studied, and certainly not for the long term. There are lots of reasons why some are retreating and some are growing. Sometimes it is man causes, such as the deforestation around Mt. Kilimanjaro. Mostly, it is just natural, a part of the current overall warming cycle of the Earth.
And, if they aren’t sure why it is growing, how can they be sure about why they retreat?
Hat tip to Raven, who has cool pictures.
Wait till the Rita Moreno glacier thaws; there will be bananas and fruit all over the tip of South America!
Or we can be brave and believe that all glaciers have been spawning humongous chunks of ice, and rebuilding their interiors with snow and more ice for eons and eons, and we have no control over them at all.
I know that I can handle the truth, but can Al Gore????
Nevermind that the vast majority of the glaciers on the planet have either retreated or disappeared over the last few decades. Let’s point out one that’s bucking the trend and pretend that disproves anything.
Huh? I know that glaciers have retreated and disappeared, I would wager that is called natural evolution.
If the earth had stayed stagnant or static from time and memorial, and no changes in climate had ever occurred, human life may never have begun!
I watched a special on the effect of glaciers on Alaska, it was beautiful stuff, and it covered the many millions of years in the formation of the fiords and glaciers and valleys. It covered the ice falling and the tidal changes and just about every aspect that went into the makeup of current day Alaska’s interior and it’s coastline. Nature is amazing in it’s ever constant changing beauty.
But there is no f-ing way that anything humans do, will stop glaciers from melting. Period.
We can and definitely should clean up our acts out of respect for the earth, but no way will we stop the temperatures from rising or falling as they will.
And taxing ourselves out of existence instead of drilling for oil in the US and offshore, is the stupidest human trick we can possibly perform. Along with taxing clean coal usage and erroneaously claiming we can rely on solar and wind powers (close to 50 times the cost of existing energy).
Ain’t gonna happen, and the sooner people understand it, the better.
Been happening for tens of thousands of years, Reasic. Primarily natural. Why does this have to be different?
Do glaciers truly retreat? I mean go back to where they started? I find that simply astounding…
