‘Memba this from the Wall Street Journal last week?
Palin Wins – If she’s dim and Obama is brilliant, how did he lose the argument to her?
The first we heard about Sarah Palin’s “death panels” comment was in a conversation last Friday with an acquaintance who was appalled by it. Our interlocutor is not a Democratic partisan but a high-minded centrist who deplores extremist rhetoric whatever the source. We don’t even know if he has a position on ObamaCare. From his description, it sounded to us as though Palin really had gone too far.
A week later, it is clear that she has won the debate.
She essentially got people talking about the provisions in which doctors are required by government law to hold end of life counseling. There isn’t a problem with end of life counseling, per se, but, the government has no place forcing the discussions. And, certainly, calling them “death panels” is over the top, but, hey, that is politics, and it got people talking about it, as well as the rest of the bill.
It also got Obama talking about it. Palin’s second win.
Then, the Senate removed all provisions for this from one of their health system destruction bills. Palin’s third win. (though, it is still in the House version.)
And, now, Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark)
I read the newspaper this morning. $57 million has been spent in the last six months, most of it in the last 45 days, trying to scare folks. I saw an ad the other night on TV. It scared the living daylights out of me. But I went back and watched it again. It used the word “could” six times in 60 seconds.
[…]
I can tell you, I’ve laid down my set of principles, so I will not force government-run health care on anyone. If there ever is government-run health care, the first ones to sign up should be the president and every member of Congress, including myself. You should be able to keep the insurance you’ve got today, if you like it, and always choose your own doctor. No federal funding for illegal immigrants or for abortion, and no rationing of health care. I will never vote for a bill to kill old people, period. [emphasis added]
Palin wins again!
I hope Mike knows what he is in for once the Nutroots get ahold of his statement, what with rest of what he said.
Teach all vets all government employees are covered by a government run health plan. Medicare is run by the governemnt.
The birthers and the deaters 2 peas in a pod
Wasn’t Trigs birth covered by a government run health plan ?
The distillation of a proposal down to a one or two word ” zinger ” is very effective. This even more true when the state media and the democreeps complain so vocally.
Interesting, John, but, totally off topic.
Bingo, bill.
How about this for on topic: The bill doesn’t even require these consultations. There are no “provisions in which doctors are required by government law to hold end of life counseling”. This section of the bill simply describes how often such counseling is covered, IF a patient requests it. Palin was WAY off base, making something up where there was nothing.
