It may be Saturday, yet another day where Obama has lied (wait, NPR called him on it?), but, let’s think about what is really important in our lives
You’ve heard of “100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall”?
How about 50 to try before you die?!
Call it the bucket list of beer.
GQ magazine put together a list of 50 beers from around the world all beer enthusiasts need to try before they die.
GQ’s style editor, Adam Rapoport, narrowed down that list and, along with co-anchor Harry Smith, sampled Rapoport’s top half-dozen. All six are readily available across the country, and inexpensive.
Rapoport’s top six:
Allagash White
Ommegang Hennepin
Oskar Blues Dale Pale Ale
Redenbach Grand Cru
Anchor Steam
Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout
Sounds like a great challenge. I’ve had Anchor Steam and Sam Adams Oatmeal stout. Altogether, I’ve only had about 7 of the beers on the list. Time to get busy!
Personally, my favorite is Carolina Pale Ale. What’s your favorite?
Well, if you count the sorry domestics at the end, I’ve had five. The Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout is the only exotic one I’ve had from this list. How did the Spaten beers miss out!? Optimator is excellent!
Linked.
Great post – I’ve had about 10 on the list and I’d have to agree on the weak finish. I’d go with Ommegang Three Philosophers over Hennepin but I like anything Ommegang brews. I love that they had Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA! At the very least this suggests some great beers to try.

Dogfish is one of the few I have had, I think it was at a restaurant up in Williamsburg, VA.
Pete’s Wicked Ale, St. Pauli Girl, Sierra Celebration Ale and Arrogant Bastard Ale are my preferred flavours. And yes, I do have a bucket list. But beers, ales and stouts are not on it,,,,,,yet.
Cancer last year. Lost a kidney to it. Doing fine but a wake up call, as it were.
I tried Ommegang Hennepin a couple of years ago. It’s terrible. It doesn’t even taste like beer.
I like Rare Vos or Three Philosophers from Ommegang better but a 98 beer rating on ratebeer.com can’t be all that bad for Hennepin. I’m sure there are few people out there who think it tastes like beer and it did make Rapoport’s top six ;) Anyone have the Stone Imperial Russian Stout? I love North Coast Old Rasputin and they both score 100 on ratebeer.
