I previously mentioned what was going on with the Flight 93 Memorial here, regarding Rep. Charles Taylor’s (R-NC-asshat)Â blocking the funding, and here regarding how the Memorial was redone so as not to include the Islamic Cresent.
Now, he has been gratious (sic) enough to stop blocking funds for the Memorial:
A North Carolina congressman on Thursday agreed to allow the federal government to spend $5 million for a memorial honoring those killed when the hijacked Flight 93 crashed in a Pennsylvania field on Sept. 11, 2001.
Rep. Charles H. Taylor, a Brevard Republican who is chairman of the House subcommittee that oversees the budget of the Interior Department, had blocked funds for the project for the past two years, saying that he was concerned it would not receive sufficient private donations and that the federal government would be asked to bail it out.
And, yes, I did call him an asshat. GOP or Dem, this kind of behavior is silly and demeaning, as well as showing a lack of respect (I hate the word disrespectfull) to the memory of those brave people on that flight and their families. He picked the wrong damn time to attempt to be fiscally responsible. I suspect he did not enjoy all the email, letters, and calls.
Allahpundit at Hot Air writes:
More from the Charlotte Observer. He was holding out over a $5 million expenditure. A Republican finally draws the line on profligate spending — and the issue he chooses to make his stand is a monument to American heroes. Perfect.
Again, as a North Carolina resident, I appologize for Taylor.
