UN Releases Its Global Warming As Caused By Man Report (Part 1)

And, to my amazement and shock, it is all negative and completely blames Mankind

PARIS – Scientists from 113 countries issued a landmark report Friday saying they have little doubt global warming is caused by man, and predicting that hotter temperatures and rises in sea level will "continue for centuries" no matter how much humans control their pollution.

A top U.S. government scientist, Susan Solomon, said "there can be no question that the increase in greenhouse gases are dominated by human activities."

Environmental campaigners urged the United States and other industrial nations to significantly cut their emissions of greenhouse gases in response to the long-awaited report by Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

Let's examine said report, shall we? The first red flag is that it was released in Paris.

While I will certainly be accused of "cherry picking," I believe that there are a few key parts. Let's see

Global atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide have increased markedly as a result of human activities since 1750 and now far exceed pre-industrial values determined from ice cores spanning many thousands of years (see Figure SPM-1). The global increases in carbon dioxide concentration are due primarily to fossil fuel use and land-use change, while those of methane and nitrous oxide are primarily due to agriculture.

1750? There were no cars, trains, or planes back then.

The other part is land use. What they do not want to say is that the urbanization of areas significantly changes the micro-climate of those areas, mostly through radiated heat. Glass, concrete, blacktop, metal, etc. Deforestation does this, as well.

The global atmospheric concentration of methane has increased from a pre-industrial value of about 715 ppb to 1732 ppb in the early 1990s, and is 1774 ppb in 2005. The atmospheric concentration of methane in 2005 exceeds by far the natural range of the last 650,000 years (320 to 790 ppb) as determined from ice cores. Growth rates have declined since the early 1990s, consistent with total emissions (sum of anthropogenic and natural sources) being nearly constant during this period. It is very likely6 that the observed increase in methane concentration is due to anthropogenic activities, predominantly agriculture and fossil fuel use, but relative contributions from different source types are not well determined.

So, stop driving cars and eating veggies. Did you know that plants release mass amounts of methane? And that massive amounts of methane are being released in the Mid Atlantic Ridge, due to heightened volcanic activity? The report will not tell you that.

You have to love the "not well determined." See, that would be called "science" if it was.

New data since the TAR now show that losses from the ice sheets of Greenland and Antarctica have very likely contributed to sea level rise over 1993 to 2003.

Have they or haven't they? See, when I was taught science back in school, there were definative causes and effects. Here, and throughout the document, we get "mighta's."

In a section, on Page 6, Some aspects of have not been observed to change

  • There is insufficient evidence to determine whether trends exist in the meridional overturning circulation of the global ocean or in small scale phenomena such as tornadoes, hail, lightning and dust-storms. (HA! Hurricanes not caused by global warming. Blame Bush!)
  • Antarctic sea ice extent continues to show inter-annual variability and localized changes but no statistically significant average trends, consistent with the lack of warming reflected in atmospheric temperatures averaged across the region. (ie, temperatures change, darnit!)
  • A decrease in diurnal temperature range (DTR) was reported in the TAR, but the data available then extended only from 1950 to 1993. Updated observations reveal that DTR has not changed from 1979 to 2004 as both day- and night-time temperature have risen at about the same rate. The trends are highly variable from one region to another. (damnit, temperatures are fluctating. Stop it!)

There you have it. We do not really know what is going on, but, we will blame Man anyhow.

I have only made it through page 6, time constraints, plus, surely there is plenty more information for several more posts.

President Bush has already told folks who want CO2 caps to piss off. Good for him.

This report, was published by 2500 scientists. Many of them not even climatologists.

Meanwhile, 17,800 scientists, over 8,000 of whom are climatologists or working in closely related fields has submitted a petition stating that there is little or no evidence that mankind is responsible for climate change.

Global warming idiocy propped by the UN…

Nobody said they were all that bright, either. Look at Kofi’s denials about the oil for food program. Why we are looking to the UN to save us is beyond me. Why we are members is even further beyond me, and why the HQ is in the US is astonishin…

My post was satire my friend – poking fun at the politicized name calling from all points on the spectrum and pop culture’s fickle and pointless way of latching on to the “cause du jour” because it’s cool for now, or because of peer pressure. I think it sucks that people can’t quit there partisan bickering to actually get something done. Provocation in the name of forcing people to challenge their own prejudices and assumptions.
    Peace. Shalom.

no, Patricia, global warming is not ‘indisputable’…

From Delaware online there was a letter published that I thought warranted a few answers. What’s great about letters to the editor is that they just sit there without a response; and the editors can decide whether or not to publish responses.
