Or does it?
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — An ambush of a military convoy that killed 17 troops near the Afghan border Wednesday pushed the death toll in a series of attacks to at least 101 Pakistanis in the past five days — and brought President Pervez Musharraf, according to a local newspaper headline, to a "Moment of Truth."
The Bush administration, after publicly demanding that Musharraf rein in militants linked to al Qaida, on Wednesday threatened to launch attacks into Pakistani territory if it sees fit.
"We certainly do not rule out options, and we retain the option especially of striking actionable targets," said White House spokesman Tony Snow. "But it is clearly of the utmost importance to go in there and deal with the problem in the tribal areas."
I know this is what Lee Hamilton wants, but that looks more like the Bush Admin simply stating that yea, we could attack if need be, not saying we are going to in there. There may be a "strong desire" to do it, per Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher, but that is not a threat to actually launch military attacks. It is no wonder so many do not trust the media, when they are misreading and overstating what is actually happening.
It is interesting to note some Pakistani’s are saying that in order to combat extremism, there needs to be a free and open democratic process, something liberals have whined about the U.S. pushing in Iraq and other countries.
And freedoms are exactly what extremists do not want. Hell, you think the progressives actually want freedoms here? They are more then happy to slap restrictions on this and restrictions on that, all so that they can have only their viewpoint and world view out there and matter. Difference is, progressives would only take all your money, they wouldn’t torture and execute you like the Muslim extremists would.
