Nice to hear about law enforcement that worries more about the law, then being PC.
The sheriff of Alamance County plans to arrest illegal immigrants who registered to vote using false documents at driver licensing offices.
“Laws are laws. I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t (serious),” Sheriff Terry Johnson told county commissioners this week.
Voter registration fraud is a felony that carries a punishment of up to 15 months in jail.
Johnson contends that illegal residents are registering at Division of Motor Vehicle offices when they obtain driver’s licenses or other forms of identification.
Darn right. I do not care which party they are voting for.
He said a “sample list” of registered Hispanics obtained by County Attorney David Smith showed that 38 of 125 registered voters were legal immigrants. The rest were either citizens, gave false names or are illegal aliens.
The sheriff’s department has received numerous calls from the local DMV office about the use of false documents to obtain driver’s licenses and to register to vote, sheriff’s department spokesman Randy Jones said. Most of them have been Hispanics, he said.
“It’s not a case of singling any one (group) out, but you can’t ignore the situation,” Jones said. “We don’t pick the race of our criminals. You have to respond to what you’ve got.”
We have enough problems with our DMV’s. Besides there not being enough of them. It will be interesting to see if any Hispanic Rights groups jump in to the fray, claiming illegal profiling.
