Yes, that Charlie Daniels. Devil Went Down to Georgia and The Souths Gonna Do It Again. Fiddles and Southern Rock. And one hell of a writer and a man of convictions. Also, a devout Christian. Everything the DU folks hate.
Mr. Daniels takes on the supposed issues at Gitmo, Camp X-Ray. He and his band played 3 shows for the troops, and Mr. Daniels witnessed, from affar, the area where the Islamic detainees are being held, as well as spoke with our troops.
We saw Camp X-Ray,
where the Taliban detainees are being held only from a distance, but I
picked up a lot of what’s going on there from talking with a lot of
different people.The
truth of the matter is that this operation is under a microscope. The
Red Cross has an on site presence there and watches everything that
goes on very closely. The media is not telling you the whole truth
about what’s going on over there. The truth is that these scum bags are
not only being treated humanely, but they are probably better off
healthwise and medically than they’ve ever been in their lives. They
are fed well, able to take showers and receive state of the art medical
care. And have their own Moslem chaplain. I saw several of them in a
field hospital ward where they were being treated in a state of the art
medical facility.
Opinion? No, fact. These Islamofacists are murders and terrorists. They live for killing the Infidel. We coddle them and treat them humanely, yet people complain. FYI, these are the people who were involved, as part of Al Queda, in attacking the United States. Some of the Leftist supporters have complained about them being held, but then they say that the Afghanistan operation was justified. Cannot have it both way. Even to score cheap political points. If we let them go, there is a good chance they will go back to training to kill Americans, and then doing just that.
I
wish that the media and the Red Cross and all the rest of the people
who are so worried about these criminals would realize that this is not
a troop of errant Boy Scouts. These are killers of the worst kind. They
don’t need protection from us, we need protection from them. If you
don’t get anything else out of this soapbox, please try to realize that
when you see news coverage much of the time you’re not getting the
whole story, but an account filtered through a liberal mindset with an
agenda.We
have two fights on our hands, the war against terror and the one
against the loudmouthed lawyers and left wing media who would sap the
strength from the American public by making us believe that we’re
losing the war or doing something wrong in fighting it. Remember these
are the same people who told us that Saddam Hussein’s Republican guard
was going to be an all but invincible enemy and that our smart bombs
and other weapons were not really as good as the military said that
they were.
You tell them, Charlie. Rest of the article here.
“These Islamofacists are murders and terrorists. They live for killing the Infidel. We coddle them and treat them humanely, yet people complain. FYI, these are the people who were involved, as part of Al Queda, in attacking the United States.”
That is a gross overgeneralization. You don’t know any such thing. They’re ALL terrorists and murderers, huh? Does that include the ones we have let go? Will it include the ones we let go later?

“Washington – Twenty-six people were released in Afghanistan and Pakistan on Monday after being transferred from a US military detention centre in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Those released included 23 Afghans and three Pakistanis, the Pentagon said in a statement.
‘They no longer were deemed a threat and they no longer had intelligence value,’ said Major Michael Shavers.”
“No longer a threat”. Were they ever? Who knows? How could you know? They are held indefinitly and incommunicado.
“By the Pentagon’s tally, 119 detainees have been released so far. Twelve others – four from Saudi Arabia, one from Spain and seven from Russia – were repatriated for continued detention in their home countries.”
But a day before they were released, they were “Islamofacist murders and terrorists that live for killing the Infidel” in your mind.
And doesn’t the right just love to pick on liberal singers or actors when they speak up? “What do you know? Go back to Hollywood!!” Oh, but Charlie Daniels is a freaking expert on Gitmo and Islamists.
Right.
“I was there for a couple of days, and by God I can tell they’re treated great! They got showers!”, he said, contradicted by our own FBI.
One last thing: “Some of the Leftist supporters have complained about them being held, but then they say that the Afghanistan operation was justified. Cannot have it both way.”
Sure you can . . .
War to topple the Taliban and root Al Queida from its main base of operations: Good thing.
Holding prisoners incommudicado, without charges, for years and years, and allegedly abusing them: Bad thing.
Easy, see?
Yes. Their own religion requires them to be “Islamofacist murders and terrorists that live for killing the Infidel” the ones that were let go we simply didn’t have the good on, or they hadn’t been caught murdering yet.
Well boy howdy, Ogre. I guess I just didn’t look at it like that! Thanks for opening my eyes!
So . . . when do we start opening up the internment camps from Muslim Americans? You know, since they’re all obviously going-to-be murderous jihadis. Premption, right?
Oh, and I really admire your Islamic scholarship, too. We need more understanding of other (enemy) cultures so that we can more easily recognize the ones that try to hide from our judgement. Congratulations, and thanks again for your insight.
I believe one of the guys we released, was killed in battle fighting US forces a few days later.
Oops.
Guess we should have held that one a few more years and years.
All these guys were caught in Afghanistan, working with Al Queda and the Taliban, PW. They are the people that, as the left has said, were involved in 9/11. The group, anyhow. What do we do with them? Let them go? Then they will just go back to their old business of trying to destroy America.
Glad to help, pusillanimous, I exist to help others see the light, and I’m glad you’re on board. We don’t need the internment camps just let, I’ll let you know when to apply for the government grants so you can open your own. :)
“All these guys were caught in Afghanistan, working with Al Queda and the Taliban, PW” Key word you left out: Allegedly.
Some of them clearly were not. Some we let go surely were (Pops). I’m not saying “don’t take prisoners of war” I’m saying follow these:
http://www.unhchr.ch/html/menu3/b/91.htm
There are very good reasons these are in place. Also, as a signed and ratified treaty, these rules carry the full force of U.S. law. They are NOT optional, even if you don’t like them. Or even if an Executive, tasked with enforcing U.S. law, seems uninterested in doing so.
Only problem, pusillanimous:
“which may arise between two or more of the High Contracting Parties”
Neither Iraq nor the terrorists signed.
Nice try, but WE DID sign it.
“Although one of the Powers in conflict may not be a party to the present Convention, the Powers who are parties thereto shall remain bound by it in their mutual relations. They shall furthermore be bound by the Convention in relation to the said Power, if the latter accepts and applies the provisions thereof.”
This clause’s interpretation is in dispute, granted. However, it has been applied to terrorists (see after [31]):
http://www.hrw.org/campaigns/kashmir/1996/India-06.htm
And non-signatories:
“. . . after the war, some Germans on trial claimed that the Geneva Convention did not apply to them because the Soviet Union, one of their enemies, has not signed. This argument was not accepted.”
http://www.pbs.org/wnet/wideangle/shows/aljazeera/handbook2.html
And it doesn’t matter anyway. Both Afghanistan and Iraq are in fact party to the Conventions, without reservations:
http://www.icrc.org/Web/eng/siteeng0.nsf/htmlall/party_gc/$File/Conventions%20de%20GenSve%20et%20Protocoles%20additionnels%20ENG-logo.pdf
Furthermore he U.S. has signed and ratified the United Nations Convention Against Torture, which applies to non-signitors as well:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UN_Convention_Against_Torture
You’ve not convinced me that the Taliban and insurgents in Iraq have signed it. Neither have you convinced me, nor anyone else in the US Government, that any articles of the Geneva Convention have actually been violated.
