What kind of people could shoot a puppy and leave it for dead? Bad people. Fortunately, there are good people in the world:
Emmie Lou, a beagle mix who was paralyzed in the hind legs after the shooting, was taken to the Animal Rehabilitation and Wellness Hospital Wednesday to be fitted for a new makeshift wheelchair.
After seeing Emmie Lou’s story on television, a local veterinarian donated the cart, which belonged to another beagle.
A few adjustments later and Dr. Denis Marcellien-Little had Emmie Lou taking her first steps. Little, a surgeon and Canine rehabilitation practitioner, said the likelihood of a donated cart fitting Emmie Lou was very slim, since the wheelchairs are custom made.
"Emmie Lou is a gift; a lesson in courage and strength and has a message to give to anyone facing serious health problems with a pet," Spears said.
Touched my heart. How about yours?
It still saddens me that there are so many people out there that can do that to an animal. There are humane ways to euthanize when it is necessary. But it’s clear that wasn’t the intention here. A lot of people dump unwanted pets in the rural areas around here. Our local humane society would rather people euthanize their own pets than to dump them somewhere, or to even drop them at the shelter. It seems wierd, but they get so many animals, there is no way to find homes for all of them.
I hope they can find a home for the little beagle. If it’s paralized, it probably doesn’t have bowel or bladder control. That will be a problem for a lot of people I’m afraid.
Have a lovely Christmas! We can all learn from that little dog. It’s all about being grateful for what we have.
