Sorta Blogless Sunday-Interlude on G’itmo

You would think that this would be important news, wouldn’t you?

During a tour of the U.S. prison for suspected terrorists on Saturday, House Republicans and Democrats, including one who has advocated closing the facility, said the United States has made progress in improving conditions and protecting detainees’ rights. (how the hell do they know, since this is the first time they have visited?)

The U.S. lawmakers witnessed interrogations, toured cellblocks and ate the same lunch given to detainees on the first congressional visit to the prison for suspected terrorists since criticism of it intensified in the spring. A Senate delegation also was visiting this weekend.

"The Guantanamo we saw today is not the Guantanamo we heard about a few years ago," said Rep. Ellen Tauscher, D-Calif.

Heard about. Let me repeat. Heard about. But through all the Left’s condemnation’s, they never visited. But, lot’s of others have visited.

At a news conference last week, the president went so far as to invite journalists to visit the prison and see that the allegations were false. The Pentagon says about 400 news organizations have toured the prison since it opened.

Despite all these news orgs having visited Camp Delta, how many have written about first hand knowledge of true abuse? Not torture mind you, but abuse. I cannot find any. Just people writing about what other people have (supposedly) told them. No evidence, no first hand reports. No pictures. These terrorists (captured in Afghanistan, mind you) are treated better then those in regular US prisons are. They eat better, live better, do not have to worry about rape by other inmates, etc.

And, as far as releasing them?

The chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., questioned the criteria for determining when a detainee can be released. "Perhaps the standard’s been too liberal," he said, noting that some of those released have returned to the battlefield.

The shame of this is that it is virtually buried on most news sites pages. Fox, BBC, and MSNBC have it front page, but Yahoo News, Google News, CNN, cBS, ABC, and many others have it buried. Not news that the Lefties want to see. Plus, it isn’t highly negative and critical towards Bush, his admin, our military, and the USA.
