I usually stay away from this type of material, but the name of the day just really annoyed me:
Ten couples who have children together and have been living together for years got married Thursday.
The group wedding was billed as "Marry Your Baby Daddy Day."
The ceremony was organized by Maryann Reid, author of "Marry Your Baby Daddy." She said she was dismayed by what she says are too many single-parent families within the black community.
Reid hopes the ceremony would help break the cycle of broken homes.
Now, the concept is great. All kudo’s to Ms. Reid. I have been unable to find the most recent study on out of wedlock birth rates (sometimes the Internet is not our friend), but, the trend has been for the black community to have the highest unmarried birth rate.
However, in this case, notice that it was ten couples that had been living together. While getting married is a great thing for them, it shouldn’t be that much of a concern as those who are not living together, and the father is non supportive or gone. That is where the focus should be. Perhaps I am being too judgemental, but I quite often see women running around with a bunch of rug rats and no wedding ring. And, according to at least previous studies, back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, the parents were not living together.
So, what annoyed me? Marry Your Baby Daddy. Horrible English. Promoting something noble with shitty language. How about promoting proper English among the "urban" sub culture.
What do you expect from a bunch of ignorint people whos Daddys are out selling crack and mommys are probaly hores. BUt you cant blame them for trying.
Keep up the good work
Means a totally different thing the way it’s written! “Hot Button” topics are running rampant Mr. Bennet!
Ah, but now you’re racist for pointing that out, TeacH!
