Apparently, the American Communist Legion of the Undying now believes that illegal drugs are a Civil Right. Morons. Trick first
MONTPELIER, Vt. –The American Civil Liberties Union is planning to appeal a federal court ruling that banned images of drugs and alcohol on clothing worn by a Vermont student.
The appeal to the 2nd Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals will come in the case of a Williamstown middle school student who was ordered to cover up images on a T-shirt that was critical of President Bush. The court will hear the case on Friday.
U.S. District Judge William Sessions last year found that Principal Kathleen Morris-Kortz could order Zachary Guiles to cover up the T-shirt.
The message on the shirt called President George W. Bush "Chicken-Hawk-In-Chief." But it wasn’t the political message that upset school officials.
Rather, the caricature of the president included images of alcohol and drug use. The school’s dress code says students should not wear clothing that promotes the use of drugs or alcohol.
But, of course, the ACLU has no problem with this, feels Guiles’ civil rights were violated, pictures and words, yada yada yada. Same old same old.
Now for the treat
A smoking, five-foot-tall bong attracted students to the HUB lawn today as part of the campus’s first Marijuana Freedom Baked Sale.
Members of the American Civil Liberties Union at the UW and the Libertarians of the University of Washington sponsored the event, selling brownies to promote marijuana decriminalization. The groups sold more than 300 brownies between 10 a.m. — 2 p.m., and said proceeds will go to Pakistani earthquake victims.
Pot’s not that bad, medical usage, federal gov’t sucks, it’s not that big a deal, blah blah blah.
Great to see the ACLU get involved in such worthy causes. While it is scientifically true that alchohol is a considerably worse drug then marijuana by far, these articles illustrate the disconnect between the ACLU and what civil rights are. The Right to protest is fine. Actually becoming involved with the advocation of pot is another.
