Well, aw haw haw haw (closest I can get in writing a French accent), they are still having some, well, issues:
LE BLANC-MESNIL, France (Reuters) – Young rioters set fire to at least 50 vehicles in an eighth night of unrest in the impoverished suburbs of northeastern Paris as exasperated local officials criticized politicking by national leaders.
Rioting erupted again late on Thursday despite hopes that festivities ending the fasting month of Ramadan would calm rioters, many of them Muslims of North African origin protesting against race bias they say keeps them in a second-class status.
Ah, a non non non, ze are mostly Muslims. I don’t know if any of y’all (said in a French accent’) have ever read the book "Cauldron" by Larry Bond. But what is going on is eerily similar to how that books went. Of course, I do not think that the French and Germans will band together, bringing in other European countries, to start a war with Poland. Desperate men do desperate things, though
Villepin and Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy, whose bitter political rivalry has overshadowed the government’s reaction, teamed up in the French Senate on Thursday to announce that restoring order was their "absolute priority."
Villepin indirectly blamed the riots on gangs he said terrorized residents and sought to keep police out of their neighborhoods.
"I refuse to accept that organized gangs are laying down the law in certain neighborhoods, I refuse to accept that crime networks and drug traffickers profit from this disorder, I refuse to accept that the strong intimidate the weak," he said.
"Law and order will have the last word," he told senators.
This could get ugly. And, despite making lots of fun of the French and France, I really do not think most people want to see France degenerate into lawlessness, especially as 25% of their population is Muslim. That said, France may learn some valuable lessons about allowing extremist groups into their country, as well as about the idiocy of Socialism. Other EU countries are worried about these actions spreading to their countries.
I wonder if the USA would be willing to save France’s ass for a third time?
I understand that the only plan of action is for, once again, the French government to dig out the white flags.
