Or so the AP is saying:
A slim majority of Americans are open to allowing undocumented workers to obtain some sort of temporary legal status to remain in the United States, with stronger support for the idea among Democrats, younger adults and more educated Americans, a new poll finds.
Overall, 56 percent of Americans favor offering illegal immigrants a shot at some kind of legal status; roughly two-thirds of those ages 18-34 like the idea and an equal share of those with a college education agree, the AP-Ipsos survey found.
While Democrats were more likely to support temporary worker status, with 62 percent favoring the idea, even among Republicans there was majority support, by a narrower 52 percent, according to the poll.
Excuse my skepticism on a beautiful Sunday, but this sounds like another Liberal Media attempt to sway the population, especially with the “more educated Americans” jibe. For the most part, a perusal through both the Left and Right sides of the Internet(s) finds that most are against Amnesty. Talking to people brings the same response. Editorials brings the same response. Yet many in the Drive By Media seem to want to excuse the behavior of illegals, and accept them into our society, giving them legal status, over and above those who came to our country the correct, and legal, way.
The idea of temporary workers seems fine with most people. But not for those who are already here illegally. While some may be good people (beyond the sneaking in illegally thing), many are criminals, with histories of rape, violence, and murder, among others, who continue their criminal activity here in the USA. Why in the hell would we want to legalize them?
Can we deport all 11-12 million? Probably not. But you damn sure do not give them any amnesty. We tried that once, and look how well that worked. A society of law does not condone illegality, much less excuse it.
Lock the borders down. Repeal the 14th Amendment. Make the penalties for those who hire illegals strict and painful. Make it nationally illegal to provide any ID’s, education, or governmental support for those who are illegal. Apply that to legal migrant workers as well. It is not our job to provide that type of support to non US Citizens.
Thousands of immigrants and their supporters chanted, blew whistles and waved flags from dozens of Latin American countries on Saturday as they marched across New York’s Brooklyn Bridge to support immigrant rights.
The festive crowd of more than 10,000 shouted “We are all Americans,” and carried banners in Spanish and English saying “We are not criminals” and “Immigrant rights are human rights” as they crossed the East River from Brooklyn to Manhattan.
“We are workers not terrorists,” said Augustin Rangel, 40, who came from Mexico four years ago and has two jobs as a painter and bar worker. “We work hard for this country and for our families. We want the same rights as everyone else.”
a. You are not American’s until you come to our country legally and go through the citizenship process. Personally, I am more then happy for you to come to the greatest country ever. Just do it legally.
b. If you came here illegally, then you are a criminal.
c. You show an utter lack of respect for the USA and its citizens by flying your non-American flags.
d. You make be “workers, not terrorists,” but, if you want the same Rights as legal US citizens, then you must do it the proper way.
e. Acting like this does not help your cause.
