DURHAM — A grand jury Monday indicted two Duke University lacrosse players in connection with allegations of gang rape at a team party.
Tracey Powers, a paralegal for defense attorney Bob Ekstrand, said Monday night that she would not release the names of the players charged in the sealed indictments or what charges they face.
“I haven’t seen the names, but we were told today, and I was given the OK to confirm,†Powers said. Ekstrand represents more than 30 members of the 47-member squad.
You knew it had to come. Someone is looking at re-election. OK, that isn’t completely fair, however, unless Durham District Attorney Mike Nifong has some really good evidence, the trial will be ugly. What with the DNA evidence coming back negative, the allegations of the alleged victim being drunk, the other stripper saying nothing happened, illegal interviews and searches of the players and their residences by the Durham Police, and idiots like Jesse Jackson being involved, gee, can you say circus?
However, if they are guilty, they should have the book thrown at them. Until then, innocent till proven guilty.
However, I seem to be missing something, with a bunch of bloggers saying that there were no indictments. I guess the story got updated.
