Once again, the ACLU not only doesn’t get the debate, but doesn’t understand the Constitution. And, they show a complete lack of respect for the miltary.
As far as the debate goes, it is about illegal imigrants, though many, including the ACLU, who has seemed to have forgotten that they are about American Civil Liberties, have attempted and are attempting to change the topic of debate to be about all immigration. Start here:
Every wave of immigration into the United States has faced fear and hostility, especially during times of economic hardship, political turmoil, or war:
It is true that the Constitution does not give foreigners the right to enter the U.S. But once here, it protects them from discrimination based on race and national origin and from arbitrary treatment by the government. Immigrants work and pay taxes; legal immigrants are subject to the military draft. Many immigrants have lived in this country for decades, married U.S. citizens, and raised their U.S.-citizen children. Laws that punish them violate their fundamental right to fair and equal treatment.
Shouldn’t that read “Every wave of legal immigration” and “it is true that the Constitution does not give foreigners the right to enter the U.S. illegally”? Because that is what we are talking about. Illegals have no legal standing in the US Constitution, and, they are breaking the laws. And it is not arbitrary to arrest them, throw them in jail, and hopefully deport them.
They are not entitled to Constitutional protection. They do not have to be employed. They do not need to have health care provided to them. No, you cannot beat them up, murder them, or physically harm them in any way. We have laws that keep legal citizens from doing that, but they are more about us, then about illegals.
Next, their issue with the Guard. Their headline on their site reads “Bush Border Proposal Would Increase Bloodshed:Â Troops trained to kill the enemy are not the solution to preserving community safety or immigrant rights.”
Well, that shows a complete lack of respect, and the ACLU’s true hatred, of the military.
Their actual story, once you go to it, doesn’t have that headline, but, does still show the anti-military drum beat:
“Our government and people have long recognized that federal law enforcement officers are the best equipped and trained to deal with these kinds of civilian law enforcement needs. Soldiers are trained to kill the enemy, and they lack the training to conduct proper law enforcement. Furthermore, they lack training to respect and protect border community residents’ civil liberties and safety. History has shown the dangers of using the military to engage in domestic law enforcement activities. (emphasis mine)
“A tragic incident illustrates the dangers of deploying the U.S. military for federal law enforcement functions. In 1997, a Marine assisting the government’s drug interdiction efforts shot and killed a goat herder, 18-year-old Esequiel Hernandez Jr. That American’s death led to a congressional review and an end to the military’s involvement in similar anti-drug patrols.
“As Congress moves forward to reform our nation’s immigration laws, it must reject measures that threaten to increase the bloodshed on our borders. Innocent peoples’ lives and liberty should not be threatened by this dangerous deployment.”
One incident. That is all they can cite. While tragic, accidents happen. The ACLU, who stated mission is to protect American civil liberties, is more worried about protecting the Rights of people who are not US citizens, nor entitled to those Rights, then respecting the sanctity of those who put their lives on the line to protect the United States.
Can the ACLU show their hatred for the military in all forms any clearer?
Furthermore, the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines will not be deployed. That would be illegal unless there is a declared war inside the USA. The Guard is going to be deployed. That is legal. But, you know, they are still trained to kill, as the ACLU puts it. I put it that they are there to protect and help.
