The Fraternal Order of Police is not happy (via Fox)
WASHINGTON — Police labor officials, angry over a federal grand jury's refusal to indict Rep. Cynthia McKinney for assaulting a police officer, said Monday they want the House ethics committee to review her conduct.
And they said the grand jury's decision last week sent the message that "it's okay to hit a police officer."
"We hope that members of Congress will review her actions in light of their rules within their own ethics committee," Andrew Maybo, chairman of the U.S. Capitol Police Labor Committee, told reporters Monday at a news conference in Washington.
Maybo said the Fraternal Order of Police would send a letter later this week to the ethics committee suggesting that McKinney's behavior violated an item in the chamber's ethics manual that calls for members to "conduct (themselves) at all times in a manner which shall reflect creditably on the House of Representatives."
And they have every right to be angry. Cythia McKinney (D-Ga) admitted she hit Officer Paul McKenna while he was in the process of performing his job. What more did a grand jury need? A competent prosecutor, maybe.
Andy Maybo, chairman of the U.S. Capitol Police Fraternal Order of Police chapter, had this to say (from The Hill)
“Congresswoman McKinney’s assault on Officer [Paul] McKenna was not only unprofessional for her position as a member of Congress, but we believe it puts out the wrong message across America, that it is OK to strike a police officer.”
I guess we will see if any Republican will step up to the plate with the letter, and submit it to the Ethics committee. Or maybe a Democrat will step up to the batters box, considering they are ones who keep yapping on about ethics.
Oh, and the NY Times delves deep into this issue, with a wopping one paragraph.
It would seem that Nancy Pelosi has become so comfortable with minority status, that she’ll do anything to retain it….
No, I don’t mean the ridiculous “cut and run” votes going on lately – I mean that Minority Leader Pelosi wants Alcee Hastings to be Chairman of the Intelligence Committee. Former Judge Alcee Hastings was impeached for taking bribes (…
