Be A Playa, Not A Hata!

Looks like someone down in the Queen City (Charlotte, NC, for y'all non-NC folks) has a bit of penis envy. Tom Sorensen, of the Charlotte Observer, does his best to rain on the Hurricanes, and their fans, parade:

Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals was one of the biggest games ever played in North Carolina. Even if you don't like hockey, there's no way to suggest otherwise. Come on now. This was for the championship of an entire professional sport whose games this season were televised by OLN.

But how big was it? Was it the biggest game ever played in North Carolina? Was it in the top 10? The top 25? Let's find out.

The Carolina Panthers' first foray into the playoffs, on Jan. 5, 1997, was bigger because the NFL is bigger. The first for any team is huge, and this game consumed a state and a region.

This drops the Hurricanes to second, and Carolina's second playoff season, seven years later against Dallas, drops the Hurricanes to third.

The whiner goes on and on in that vein, till he gets to the end:

Remember the major races at Lowe's Motor Speedway and, in the old days, at Rockingham and North Wilkesboro? You ever see the Charlotte rugby team? The national Putt-Putt tour once came to the historic Albemarle Road No. 2 course.

The Hurricanes finish 393. If this doesn't prove North Carolina is Stanley Cup Crazy, I don't know what does.

Well, gee, Tom, thanks for your support. The first professional title for the NC team, and the best you can come up with is this, well, crap. Obviously, something good for North Carolina is an issue for you.

I'm not going to take shots at Charlotte, such as their inability to keep the Hornets (woops, sorry), as I have too many friends, both in Real Life and online, who live in Charlotte. But, this kind of negativity and pessimism is typical of the commie/socialists at the Observer, where the glass is not half empty, but completely empty and someone, usually the taxpayers, needs to pay out the nose to fill it.

I guess it was too much to expect to see something positive. It may just be the NHL, but, talk to me again when the Panthers or the woeful Bobcats (a wopping 26-56 this past season) win a title. Granted, the college b-ball titles by State, Carolina, and Duke were great. But, no pro team has won till the 'Canes. Take pride in your State, Tom.

In all fairness, much of the rest of the Observer has been supportive, as well as many folks from the Charlotte area. To them, I say thank you. Me, I am a NJ Devils fan first and always, but, I love hockey, the town where I live (Raleigh,) and my State.
