Congress Wastes Time On Polar Bears and Stem Cells

There is war in Iraq and Afghanistan. We now have the Israeli/Hezbollah fight. High gas prices. Etc. Yet the Congress is wasting time on minor, trivial legislation. At least that was the cry from the Left when the Congress was debating gay marriage and a Flag Amendment, to name a few. They complained about passage of legislation in North Carolina mandating time be set aside in schools to say the Pledge of Allegience, which was a Democratic initiative. Will you hear the same complaint now that the House has passed legislation to protect polar bears?

The House gave its approval Monday to a U.S.-Russia treaty to help protect polar bears from overhunting and other threats to their survival.

That is very nice, and worthy, but it is trivial in terms of running the United States. Yet I haven't seen anyone complain about this time waster. Why is that?

And embryonic stem cells? Huge waste of time. President Bush says he will veto it (bought damn time he vetoed something!) So far, all research into embryonic stem cells has produced zip. Nada. Ziltch. Research with adult stem cells has show great promise, including actual treatments and cures. Imbilical stem cell research has shown similar promise.

Quite frankly, embryonic stem cell research is simply an excuse to say how great abortion on demand is. Since alot of people are against abortion, why are we going to use federal money to subsidize this research?

And why are we wasting time on this? There are more important things going on. Or so I'm told.

Maybe Nancy Pelosi could sponsor another investigation into cow flatulence and its effects on global warming. Yes, yes, cheap shot.

    BINGO

It’s most likely all the hot air coming out of the leftie side of the aisle causing all that global warming. Polar bears rule!

I haven’t seen the bill, but in all liklihood, this is a bill authorizing federal money on stem cell research — NOT preventing anyone else who wants to put their money where their mouth is from doing the research themselves.

  3. Exactly, both of you.

It would use federal money. Private is already allowed. But, so far, ESC research is batting zip, while ASC research is producing.
