As typical with these "progressive" groups, they only seem to go after one side, in this case Israel, and forget about the actual bad guys, in this case, Hezbollah (direct from Human Rights Watch):
Israeli forces have systematically failed to distinguish between combatants and civilians in their military campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon, Human Rights Watch said in report released today. The pattern of attacks in more than 20 cases investigated by Human Rights Watch researchers in Lebanon indicates that the failures cannot be dismissed as mere accidents and cannot be blamed on wrongful Hezbollah practices. In some cases, these attacks constitute war crimes.
The 50-page report, “Fatal Strikes: Israel’s Indiscriminate Attacks Against Civilians in Lebanon,” analyzes almost two dozen cases of Israeli air and artillery attacks on civilian homes and vehicles. Of the 153 dead civilians named in the report, 63 are children. More than 500 people have been killed in Lebanon by Israeli fire since fighting began on July 12, most of them civilians.
“The pattern of attacks shows the Israeli military’s disturbing disregard for the lives of Lebanese civilians,” said Kenneth Roth, executive director of Human Rights Watch. “Our research shows that Israel’s claim that Hezbollah fighters are hiding among civilians does not explain, let alone justify, Israel’s indiscriminate warfare.”
I've searched HRW's site extensively, and have failed to find any article relating to Hezbollah specifically targeting Israeli civilians, in particular women and children. I guess the TV stations HRW watches (probably Hezbollah TV) do not show all the missiles launched by Hezbollah. Go figure.
All the media, including the Leftaloon blogs, are going ape over this condemnation of Israel, not that anyone would expect different. Not finding many that ask the question, what about Hezbollah?
Dear Human Rights Watch:
I am wondering if you have heard of Hezbollah. You know, the terrorist organization in Lebanon whose sole purpose is the elimination of the Jewish state. You have condemned Israel for supposedly attacking Lebanese civilians indiscriminately; will you do the same for Hezbollah?
Short and to the point. Of course, based on the way other liberal organizations, such as the ACLU, respond, I am reminded of the old joke: A tourist in NYC walks up to a New Yorker and says "Can you tell me what time it is, or should I just go f*ck myself?"
I’m sure if you check the news release carefully, you will find two more details:
1. All sources will be attributed to CNN aka Helbullah TV.
2. Somewhere there will be a condemnation of the US for human rights violations, too.
I wouldn’t be surprised.
