I have mentioned before some of the issues with I have had with spambots. I'm sure others have the same issue, especially of they use naughty words. Heh!
Some folks recommend the use of Bad Behavior over Akismet or Spam Karma 2, but, I like to see what is coming through, because sometimes legit TB's and comments get fragged.
So, the solution I have been using is Wordverify. Very simple. Can change the code word to whatever you want whenever you want. You do not have to go through all the rigamarole that you do with some captcha's. This is a simple solution, without the need to make any changes, except the word.
Another great plugin, which I have just started playing with, is Peter's Custom Anti-Spam Image plugin. This is nice, because you can have as many words as you want and they come in three fonts. You can even add more fonts. But, Peter used easy to read ones. Some of the image captcha's are damn near impossible to read. Not these.
You can have it do random colors. Or straight blue. Or white on a black background.
Did I mention that the words will be random?
It just requires a wee bit of changing in the plugin editor. Still simple.
If comment spam makes it through, I change the word(s). Period.
Mind you, this is only meant to stop comment spam, not trackback spam.
If you have any concerns with comment spam, give them a whirl.
I often feel like I need a bath after I read my spam. Ugh. Agent Bedhead uses Bad Behavior and it’s now locking me out after she updated.
I just do not fully trust Bad Behavior, plus, since you can see it live from the Admin panel, I would rather use Akismet or Spam Karma.
Code words are a nice, easy way to block most comment spam.
