In reality, the story is rather dumb. I was getting out of bed, and caught my big toe, which I have snapped and dislocated before (at the same time!) in a bra strap. Said bra was stuck under the wheels of the bed frame. As I started going down I put my right hand out to keep from doing a faceplant into the window frame, and caught my finger wrong, and damn near snapped the joint at the base of the thumb.
I blame Bush, of course :)
