Edwards Pandering For President

Yawn. I suppose since this is politics, and John Edwards, aka Breck Girl, "served" as a Senator from North Carolina, I should probably comment on his announcement that he is running for President. There really isn't all that much to say, though. Let's look at the ticker tape highlights

  • Edwards was such a piss-poor Senator, missing staggering amounts of Senate business, leading very liberal NC papers to dub him "Senator Gone," that he was asked by the NC Dem Party leaders, from what I heard, to not run for his seat again.
  • Instead, he ran for President, leading him to be the VP candidate for a John Kerry
  • Neither of them had anything to offer other then condemnation and slogans
  • Edwards has done little but patronize people since the loss
  • Edwards has singlehandedly done serious damage to the birthing industry with his BS lawsuits, make him rich, so, in his "Two America's" theory, he is in the "have" category
  • He still has little to offer but empty rhetoric, backpeddling, and patronizing social issues ideas which aren't even his

Quite frankly, a perusal around the left side of the Internet, including the MSM, doesn't not show much in the way of excitement, other then "he isn't Hillary." Let's check CNN

Edwards — who is calling for cuts in poverty, global warming and troops in Iraq — scheduled his kickoff in New Orleans, still devastated from last year's Hurricane Katrina. He chose the site to highlight his signature concern of the economic disparity that divides America.

Interesting. Why doesn't he give some of his money to the poor? And, it is his Party that has worked to give fish, rather then teaching to fish. Global warming? There's an important issue in light of world wide terrorism threats. Plus the ever liberal popular cut and run.

Edwards said the difference between his message to voters in 2004 and his 2008 presidential bid is that, "I've learned since the last campaign that it's great to identify a problem … but the way you change things is by taking action."

In other words, he has had lots of liberal focus groups searching for patronizing ideas and language, rather then actually standing for something. Liberals may hate Bush 43, and Conservatives may hate Jimmy Carter, but, at least you always know where they stand for real.

In his message to supporters, Edwards listed five priorities to change America. Among them: "Guaranteeing health care for every single American," "Strengthening our middle class and ending the shame of poverty," "Leading the fight against global warming," and "Getting America and the world to break our addiction to oil."

Socialized BS, Two America's BS, environmental BS, and never going to happen, since Libs refuse to allow drilling for oil on and near American soil, hate coal (me too), hate nuclear, and block wind farms, such as the Cape Wind Project. Plus, the world is already doing that, as nuclear power is huge in Europe.

Back to the middle class:

The indefensible challenges to Edwards’ Senate record show exactly how much “Senator Gone” really cares. Edwards touted his side’s intentions to cut taxes on the middle class; Cheney pointed out that the Senate voted the other day on an important bill to cut taxes on the middle class, and Edwards was not even there to vote on it. If he cares so much about cutting middle class taxes, why wasn’t he there to vote on it when his vote was one of only a hundred

I have seen some lefties point out that Reagan came back from several losses while running for President. The difference was, and is, that Reagan had ideas, he had plans, and he had vision, three things Edwards doesn't. It wasn't just about meaningless rhetoric with nothing to back it up, ala Edwards.

Not one thing on his website regarding national security.

Not much out there at all from the Right side, and, visiting Memeorandum, the libs just aren't excited. Pam's House Blend takes a reality based solution, and spends little time actually discussing the merits of Edwards. Kinda hard when the dude has little record in the Senate to speak of. She does manage to insert something about that evil homophobe Vernon Robinson (snort) and the wonderful Brad "does jack squat for NC" Miller.

No, I am not picking a blog fight, just found it amusing.

McQ at Q and O has a long discussion on Edwards, well worth the read.

Gateway Pundit has video, but forgets to use the phrase "Breck Girl." Heh! :)

An article from Frontpage Magazine in 2004 should tell you all you really need to know about Senator Gone.

The phony waited a year before going to N.O. and pitching a childs shovel full of dirt. Yep, he’ll help the poor idiots recover. He’s a waste of oxygen.

You could tell he hasn’t had much practice with a shovel. It was really kinda funny. Limousine Democrat. I hear he’s putting the finishing touches on his 3.5 mil house in the Carolinas.

Hey, I only came in hopes that you had photos of his new 100 acre estate in Chapel Hill. Since I’m no longer blogging I have a lot more time to live vicariously.

(I’m just thrilled to find out that your anti-spam word is still “headlights”. Ha!

  6. JulieB says:

Yup the VANILLA PUDDING candidate. Smooth, white, a bit too sweet, and basically not much on the palate. Doesn’t get my vote. I’m still, well, waiting. I’d vote for McCain before Edwards….

  7. Janette says:

ACK! Julie, you would actually be able to decide between McCain and Edwards??? I would have to be carried away from the polls; a quivering mass of indecisive apathy. Someone actually tempted to vote *gulp* third party.

Let’s hope that it doesn’t come to that.

  8. Linda and Scrapiron, that is about all Breck Girl is good for.

Beth and Janette, no photos yet, but, I’ll work on it. I have to go up to that area next week.

Hi, Julie and Janette, how’s it going?

There must be better candidates out there then McCain and Edwards, Obama, Hillary, etc. Where are the Reagans and JFK’s?

  9. Janette says:

I dunno Teach but the Republican party needs to come up with someone soon. With the current crop of candidates it’s almost depressing.
