Dingy Harry made a little speech Monday
WASHINGTON, Feb. 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Today, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid joins in recognition of the 65th anniversary of the National Day of Remembrance, commemorating the World War II internment of Japanese Americans.
February 19, 2007 marks 65 years since President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, which forced 120,000 Japanese American citizens and legal residents into internment camps during World War II solely based upon their Japanese descent.
"The exclusion and internment of Japanese Americans based on fear and hysteria marks a profound and shameful departure from our values as a nation " said Senator Reid " We must continue to remember this tragic time in our history to learn from our errors of the past, reaffirm our commitment to the protection of civil liberties and to ensure that we never walk the same path again."
As we reflect upon this day, we should also recognize the significant contributions of Japanese Americans to our nation and to Nevada, who from the earliest times, have shaped our country with hard work, great courage and hope.
Notice that, while he mentions that FDR signed the Executive Order, Reid is, in effect, blaming all Americans for the internment. Was it the right thing to do? Maybe. Maybe not. We were at war with Japan and Germany. However, do you really think that Reid cares?
No, I'm sure he doesn't. What he is doing is setting the table to complain (more) about the holding of people accused of terrorism as enemy combatants, including, but not limited to, those held at Club Gitmo, caught on the battlefields of Afghanistan wearing no uniform.
He is setting the table to complain (more) about how we capture people accused of terrorism. The "spit on the sidewalk" measures put in place post 9/11, which get people, mostly non US citizens, for any infraction, then the federal agencies investigate them more, to see if there are terrorism links. Many of those people are just deported. Many are thrown in the pokey. Reid doesn't like that, like the good little liberal he is.
Liberals live in a pre-9/11 world, where we should wait till a terrorist attack is undertaken, then investigate. They live in a world where non US citizens are given full American rights, regardless of the danger to actual US citizens.
Pitiful.
Remember Ali Saleh Kahlah al-Marri? He was caught through the "spit on the street" method. He had links to Mohammed Atta, he trained at an Al Qaeda camp in Afghanistan, had taken an oath to AQ, and had verifiable contacts with Mustafa Ahmed al-Hawsawi, a major terrorism financier, including funneling thousands of dollars to the 9/11 hijackers. Of course, the Left thought he was just an OK guy, and should be released. Did I mention he wasn't an American citizen?
His lawyers claimed he was tortured. You know, he was kept in a cold room. Poor baby. Personally, I could care less. In my opinion, the lives of Americans come first, foremost, and always.
