No, I haven’t written about the Senate Amnesty Bill. What point? So many have written so well about it. It does make sense in a few spots, but, since it really provides little for enforcement nor border security, there is nothing else to say but "Hell No!"
The national GOP seems to be following right along with the plan; fortunately, the North Carolina Republican Party seems to understand what it is really about
Linda Daves, Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party, issued this statement about the recent compromise on immigration reform (U. S. Senate Bill 1348):
"The recent proposed compromise on illegal aliens in the US clearly sets a double standard for law abiding citizens and for illegal aliens. Must we remind our leaders that we are a nation of laws. While we welcome others to this land of opportunity, we oppose a double standard that allows illegal aliens to bypass our legal system. If you oppose amnesty and support securing our borders, I urge you to telephone and email all U. S. Senators and voice your opposition to (U. S. Senate Bill 1348) extending amnesty to illegal aliens. â€
Kudos to them for taking a stand. The national party can dress the pig up and call it a beauty queen, but they have apparently not been "just saying no."
Find your Senator and House critter, and tell them "hell no!"
And, to those Senators that are behind the bill?
More: Senator Dole is not one of those that My Little Buddy is saying "hi" to
May 18th, 2007 – Washington, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole today made the following statement regarding the immigration reform proposal expected to come before the Senate on Monday:
“While I recognize that immigration reform is urgently needed, based on what I’ve learned so far, I would oppose this proposal unless it is radically altered,†said Dole.
Last year, Dole voted against the Senate bill that included amnesty, and she continues to oppose amnesty. She supports stricter border enforcement, effective workplace verification, and a truly temporary worker program to fill jobs that American workers do not want in construction, agriculture and other sectors.
Nothing on Senator Burr’s website as of yet. Nor Brad Miller, G.K. Butterfield, Bob Etheridge (who apparently has gone missing since January), David Price, Mike MacIntyre, Robin Hayes, Sue Myrick (that’s disappointing), Heath Schuler, and Melvin Watt (See CongressMerge for links).
Howard Coble wants to read it first. Obviously, he hasn’t seen any press on it.
Timeline In Iraq Jones wasted no time in denouncing it, nor did Virginia Foxx and Patrick McHenry.
Hot Air has points out Senators Chambliss and Graham being booed for their support of the amnesty bill.
The largest problem I see with it is they get legal status immediately but the 8 to 13 year BS path does not start until the borders are secure and the verification system is up and running. That may never happen. So, immediate legal status, encourage more illegals, solve nothing and the illegals are still complaining.
