Todays Duke "the rape never happened" lacrosse case
Durham — Duke University officials announced Monday that the school has reached a settlement with three former lacrosse players who were wrongfully accused of sexual assault.
Terms of the settlement between Duke and David Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann weren’t disclosed.
I wonder if the money will be coming from the 88 faculty members who immediately found the players guilty salaries?
Durham — Two days after he was stripped of his law license, Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong indicated Monday that he will remain on the job for another month.
Nifong submitted a letter of resignation to Gov. Mike Easley, saying that he would leave office on July 13.
Almost a month?
A bill pending in the state House would allow the governor to immediately remove a district attorney or judge who has been disbarred from office. Easley, a former district attorney himself, said he supports the bill and thinks Nifong should have resigned immediately.
While interesting, wouldn’t that allow for Nifong to sue, since it is against the Constitution to retroactively penalize someone?
… attorneys for Seligmann and the other two exonerated men, Collin Finnerty, 20, and David Evans, 24, are preparing to file a civil lawsuit against Nifong. The bar association found that Nifong withheld evidence that would have helped the men’s defense attorneys and lied about it.
Unfortunately, any money paid will come out of the State coffers, not Nifong’s personal bank account.
Blackbeard – What about the Duke faculty that signed a petition ( 80 of them ) that proclaimed ‘guilty’ verdicts on these three Dukies …. at the beginning of this ordeal? I’d go after their ‘PC’ liberal asses next – bigtime! These academic cronies are just as evil as Nifong. I’d go after the local newspaper editor as well.
