Let’s see: the Earth has about 6 billion people. Live Earth folks are claiming that 2 billion watched it. Are they seriously wanting us to believe that 1/3 of humanity watched the show? Maybe if you include the snippets shown on news and such.
NEW YORK — NBC’s three-hour Live Earth primetime special, which included highlights from Saturday’s global concerts, failed to generate much enthusiasm in the ratings.
The estimated 2.7 million viewers were slightly less than the 3 million NBC would average on a normal Saturday night in the summer with repeats on what already is the least-popular night of television.
It was less successful than what MSN experienced online for Live Earth. MSN said Monday that more than 8 million users streamed 15.4 million videos of Live Earth on MSN live. That’s ahead of the 5 million people who watched 2005’s Live 8 concert via AOL.
Ratings for individual cable networks weren’t available until today, but Nielsen Media Research said Monday that 19 million people tuned in to at least six minutes of the telecasts on NBC, Bravo, Sundance or the other NBC Universal channels that were involved in Sunday’s telecast.
NBC’s telecast performed below the Live 8 concert two years ago, according to preliminary estimates by Nielsen Media Research.
OK, great for on-line, but not so good on TV. I guess people already knew about global warming
I had a friend ask me why I am being so hard on the global warming as caused by Man folks in general, and the Live Earth concerts specifically. It is very simple. First, I am a big supporter of the environment. I want clean air, water, and land. Clear cutting disgusts me. It pisses me off when I see someone litter. And, yes, I do believe the earth is warming.
I have said time and time again that it is warming. We came out of the Little Ice Age, so, sure, it is warmer now then 150-200 years ago. Climate changes. The Earth and Sun do things. And, yes, I do believe Man has some influence. But not for silly CO2 output. The actual pollutants we put out have an effect, even if small.
What the climate change nutters are doing is postitioning it as simply the fault of Man, and primarily because of the CO2 we put out. It is a beyond absolutist position that will not only turn a lot of people off, but only get the hardcores to "do something." It would be considerably wiser, in my opinion, if they just went out and started telling the truth, that the temp changes are only caused in small part by Man, but, that we can do are part in keeping the Earth as clean as we can, and forget CO2. Focus on the real dangers, pollution. The smog put out by a car is much worse then the CO2 output.
Why don’t we deal with what is really a danger, and just stop withe the absolutist talk?
6 billion people and their machines could have absolutely NO impact on our planet ? Deforestation could have no impact on climate ? Well people do seem to cling to beliefs that they find comfort in.
