(Washington Times) President Bush is committed to vetoing the latest effort to expand federal "hate crimes" laws to include sexual orientation, even if it means sending a defense authorization bill back to Congress, the White House said.
"The qualifications [in the bill] are so broad that virtually any crime involving a homosexual individual has potential to have hate crimes elements," said White House spokesman Tony Fratto.
The legislation is attached to a defense appropriations bill, which makes it tough for President Bush, but just shows how desparate the Democrats are to push through legislation to assail the Rights of equal protection in order to pander to their base and certain lobbies. I have no more problem with homosexuals above any other population subsection. Doesn’t mean I care for the lifestyle, but, hey, this is America, land of the free. Who am I to say they cannot live their life? But, that does not mean they should get any more rights then anyone else. Nor should the transexuals, as they are mentioned in the bill.
Nor should any group. Government should not be regulating morality, and, yes, before it comes up, they should not be requiring religion, either. All groups should be protected equally and without prejudice.
