Yup, these are the people who need comprehensive immigration reform
(Washington Post) Islamic extremists embedded in the United States — posing as Hispanic nationals — are partnering with violent Mexican drug gangs to finance terror networks in the Middle East, according to a Drug Enforcement Administration report.
The 2005 report outlines an ongoing scheme in which multiple Middle Eastern drug-trafficking and terrorist cells operating in the U.S. fund terror networks overseas, aided by established Mexican cartels with highly sophisticated trafficking routes.
These terrorist groups, or sleeper cells, include people who speak Arabic, Spanish and Hebrew and, for the most part, arouse no suspicion in their communities.
But, no, do not profile them, hold them up to the light, as we do not want to damage their self esteem. If only we were just nicer to them, stopped stealing their oil, yada yada yada.
And just to make sure that more are able to cross the southern border illegally
(Washington Times) National Guard troops assigned to help increase security along the U.S.-Mexico border are being pulled off the line a year earlier than promised, and some state and federal officials are not happy about it.
The reductions, which began July 1 and will be completed by Sept. 1, will result in a cut of Guard troops in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas from 6,000 to 3,000 — half of that promised by Mr. Bush in 2006.
First, let’s not forget that Democrats pitched a hissy fit over the plan to put the NG folks on the border initially, but, putting that aside, the NG troops have been doing lots of the scut work for the Border Patrol, as well as checking the cameras, building roads and fences, and many other things that free up the BP agents to go out in the field and do their job. Arrests are down, as more people refuse to attempt the crossing, and drug siezures are up. Why interfere with that now? Like with the Surge, give the Operation Jump Start the time to be implemented in full.
Meanwhile, the Feds are doing something guaranteed to get liberal pink panties in a knot
(New York Times) In a new effort to crack down on illegal immigrants, federal authorities are expected to announce tough rules this week that would require employers to fire workers who use false Social Security numbers.
“We are tough and we are going to be even tougher,†Russ Knocke, the spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security, said yesterday. “There are not going to be any more excuses for employers, and there will be serious consequences for those that choose to blatantly disregard the law.â€
Um, while this is a good start, if you were really tough, you would require that the companies report those people as possible illegals, and as definite law breakers. Isn’t it a crime to fail to report a crime?
so let’s see the report is from 2005 but i don’t recall seeing any big busts…….
