OK, not every Democrat is for amnesty for illegal aliens, but, darn near!
House Democratic leaders are being whipsawed on immigration policy by two groups within their caucus — Hispanic lawmakers who want an end to Democratic support of enforcement-only immigration bills and vulnerable Democrats from swing districts who say a “get tough†approach is necessary to keep their seats in 2008.
Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairman Joe Baca (D-Calif.) plans to address the Democratic Caucus at next week’s meeting to reassure colleagues that they can be tough while creating a path to citizenship for undocumented and illegal immigrants.
Worried about appearing soft on the issue in an election year, yet knowing they cannot afford to alienate Hispanic voters, Democratic leaders have let conservative members join legislative forces with Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) and allowed passage of a non-binding motion prohibiting the government from suing groups that require employees to speak English at work.
As a result, Baca and a group of Hispanic Democrats threatened revolt on two procedural votes last month to protest leadership handling of immigration. Now Baca is trying conciliation, reaching out to House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel (Ill.) and centrist Democrats.
What most elected Democrats and Democrat leaders want is blanket amnesty, in order to create more voters. However, a good chunk of the actual Democrat voter base wants no amnesty, and were very upset with the Senate immigration bills when that kerfuffle was going on. The middle ground voters, who are the ones who really elect people to office, are not happy with giving amnesty, too. But, listening to them is anthematic for Democrats, who feel that they are the smart people, so everyone else should just get in line and follow along.
Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), who spoke at an NDN forum on immigration on Wednesday, said that unlike Republicans, Democrats avoid references in debate to “those people.†He added, “It shocked me to hear that on the Senate floor … If we show our understanding on those issues, we’ll have a unique chance at a record Latino vote and a Democratic president [in 2008].â€
Democrats believe that pandering to Latino’s, including those who cannot legally vote, and should not even be in the United States, is a good plan. Of course, ultra-pandering is inherent in the Democrat platform, as they have been doing with Blacks for decades.
As Iraq calms down and good things keep happening there, this election may very well come down to two issues: healthcare and illegal immigration. And, with the illegal issue, Americans overwhelmingly do not want to issue amnesty to people who broke our laws.
And, via Hot Air
Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean yesterday said Republicans are targeting immigrants and told the Republican presidential candidates that the tone of their debates on the issue has become “outrageous.â€
“Stop scapegoating immigrants and stop using immigration as a wedge issue,†Mr. Dean, a 2004 presidential hopeful, said in a conference call with reporters meant to set the stage for this weekend’s Republican presidential debate on Spanish-language network Univision.
Wedge issue? Perhaps your party should stop using Operation Iraqi Freedom as a wedge issue, especially as you want us to completely lose, Mr. Quisling.
Teach, what do you think we should do with the 12-20 million illegal aliens living in our country?
To start with, we make sure that Democrats are not involved with legislation, since they think only of an expanded voter base, rather then what is good for the USA, and, what is the law.
You start by initiating huge fines for companies that employ illegals, make it so expensive they will not employ them.
You initiate a serious of checks to keep people from overstaying their visas.
You put more guards on the southern border, where most illegals cross. As much as I detest a fence, it is shown to work.
You give illegals the power to sue employers for not paying them min wage.
You have a good guest worker program. I am all for that, but, you make the employer responsible for their healthcare, as well as making sure they do not overstay their visas.
You deny services to illegals. No schooling, no healthcare, other then emergency. No welfare. No DLs. No status, period.
Repeal the 14th amendment. It has served its purpose. Children of illegal aliens can stay or go, but, the parents go bye bye. It is their responsibility for playing these games, not ours. People do not complain when mom or dad is put in the pokey for robbery.
Finally, you have a setup where certain illegals can appeal for residency, which, if allowed, would carry big fines and requirements of good behavior. There are going to be some exeptions.
What is your plan?
Why not use immigration as the debating point ? It is without any doubt whatsoever the biggest thorn in the side of all 78% of us, and thats make us the majority.
When these people invaded this country , they were told by their Govt. that America would take care of us, and to our dimay ,it is very true…!!!
We, the people were never asked if we wanted them here , nor were we asked if we wanted the $ 1.3 TRILLION dollars debt ( so far ) that it has cost us tro support them.
Yes, the pro illegals will say the same old crap , that we are racist, xenophofobic, racist, and that they do the jobs Americans wont do….THESE ARE THEIR COMMENTS TO US WHO WANT THEM TO GET THR HELL OUT and go back home…..Take that big $$$$ burden of our backs, most of us have raised our own children, why do we get the tab for raising somebody’ elses?
ANCHOR-BABIES will be the down fall of this Government, and it will start next year in 2008 wheb many of these children will be turning 18 and legal to start bringing in to this Country their entire families, some as large as 12-15 each, and then there is nothing to do about it….Another 15 million hispanics given free citizenship …un-believeable….Its like being an American is worth about 3cents, they make it so CHEAP….Please GOD help us, the DEMO Congress Wont….!!!!!
Teach said: What is your plan?
Except for the 14th Amendment part I could support that plan.
… 12 million my butt! Try 20 million, plus. Just read the local prison and correctional facility inmate / detainee rosters in the 31 Red States of America and 19 Blue States of Socialism! We have USAF C-5 Galaxy and C-17 Globemaster jumbo jet aircraft at Travis AFB in California and Dover AFB in Delaware… Load up the illegals and go to 25,000 feet and … GERONIMO … over Canada or Greenland or Siberia. Note: Parachutes are optional. Feliz Navidad and Remember the Alamo 1836!
Baca=Caca? Just wondering.
I think that I have seen you mention before that you are from NC. How does someone initiate a recall of Erskine Boles now that he has come out proposing that we give in state tuition to illegals?
BARACK OBAMA SUPPORTS DEFACTO DISCRIMINATION AGAINST AFRICAN IMMIGRANTS!
Obama likes Mexican and Central American immigrants so much better than African immigrants that he supports practices and policies that allow Mexico and CAm with 2% of the worlds’ population to provide 66 % of America’s total immigrants legal and otherwise. While Africa with 10 % of the world’s population and far worse poverty and persecution (Darfur et al) gets a mere 2% of America’s total immigration slots. If such racial disparities existed in jobs, housing, schools etc anywhere in America they would be rightly denounced as the evidence of racist policies and successfully challenged in the courts and in the streets with demonstrations.
But when it comes to immigrants, Obama prefers them brown and wants to forget the blacks and all the rest. Why? — the answer is politics. He is willing to forget fairness, all men are created equal, the struggle against racial bias etc to indulge in favoritism toward Mexicans and Central Americans because he’s convinced that this subtle form of racism buys votes. Obviously, Obama believes that giving all potential immigrants a fair and equal chance at US citizenship regardless of their race or country of origin buys zero votes.
America’s immigration practices, especially the tolerance of illegal immigration, function to provide an ample supply of cheap, pliable labor for the self-indulgent rich and for certain business interests.. No candidate of either party, not even the fringe candidates, has proposed that we end our sorry practices that foster racial and ethnic immigration discrimination. Nonetheless, it is particularly disappointing that Obama, the first serious African American candidate for President should go further than any of the other first tier candidates in pandering to racist “Hispanic” groups like La Raza & MECLA.
Obama, who is half Kenyan, ignores the injustice of giving Mexicans huge advantages over Kenyans and other Africans and Asians who might want to immigrate here. This betrays where his deepest loyalties lie, not to justice and equality for other blacks, indeed for all, but to his own political ambitions. If his true commitment were to justice and equality he would want all potential immigrants to be able to compete fairly for limited US immigration slots on the basis of colorblind criteria such as marketable skills, education, knowledge of English, commitment to become Americans, and demonstrable hardships such as persecution in their homelands. On immigration Obama is the biggest sham of all.
Barack Hussein ‘Q-Tips’ Obama is from Illinois…where JFK received votes from DEAD people in 1960, and where 130 illegal aliens were just busted on the RAMP of Ohare International Airport… while working as employees!!!
