A Mexican citizen in the United States illegally was convicted Monday of killing a Port Washington boy in a hit-and-run crash in the Town of Lima last summer.
Eddie Carbajal-Lile, 27, accepted a plea deal that could put him behind bars for more than 20 years, though the prosecution will recommend 10 years in prison under the terms of the agreement.
According to a criminal complaint, Carbajal-Lile ran a stop sign at county Highway V and state Highway 32 and struck a car with three teenagers inside Aug. 14, injuring two and killing Paul B. Watry, 17. Carbajal-Lile fled the scene on foot and was captured two weeks later in Ohio, authorities said.
It was claimed that Carbajal-Lile had been drinking, but, they were not able to verify that due to his fleeing the scene while Watry was dying.

In related news, an illegal alien who kidnapped and raped a 16 year old girl in 2004 was nabbed at the border a few days ago.
This is a local story here. The DA has said that the reason he is opting for the 10 year recommendation is that it really does no good to put him in jail for more time than that. The family will have their say at sentencing and the judge will have to option of giving him more (or less) time behind bars, but don’t count on it. This county is notorious for liberal judges cutting time off of sentences. The fact that the guy fled the scene and wasn’t apprehended for (2) weeks should get him the maximum anyway in my opinion.
I agree with your view of the sentence, but, like you said, the liberals will probably give him a light sentence. Disgusting.
