Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean said Thursday that swing voters participating in focus groups commissioned by the D.N.C. bring up John McCain’s age unprompted.

“We didn’t bring it up, but they volunteered it,” said Dean who explained that voters have two concerns about McCain’s age. “One was a health concern, the other was, and this is really interesting . . . that his views are old-fashioned.”

Go ahead and read the whole article. I’ll wait.

All done? I’m sure they all “volunteered it.” Of course, most of the people surveyed were probably hard core idiots, er, I mean Democrats. The health and age thing looks to be where the Democrats are wanting to go with assaulting McCain, and expect much more of that up to the election, and certainly afterwards, when McCain is going to be 44, if you get my meaning.

But, apparently it is OK to discuss McCain’s age and health, whereas it is out of bounds to discuss Obama’s associates, such as the Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers.

As far as “old fashioned goes,” great! Back to the days where the government was barely intrusive, was responsive to the People, the Feds had a much lower scope, taxes were lower, and crime was limited.

Furthermore, if you want to talk old fashioned, the progressive ideals the Demorats push are based on ideas from the middle 1800’s. Our brand of Conservatism is based on ideals from as far back as the 1950’s.

McCain responds:

My friends, I am disturbed by the tone that Howie Dean and the DNC is taking in this presidential campaign. First, let me address the “old fashioned” accusation.

Yes, I am old fashioned, and I like being old fashioned, particularly if being old fashioned means living in a society of law and order, rather then the lawlessness, mayhem, and murder that has occured due to liberal court rulings and laws.

I am old fashioned in thinking that the government should take very little of your money that you earned in order to give it to people who did not earn it, particularly for pork barrel projects.

I am old fashioned in thinking that people should not have to work themselves to the point where they and their spouse have little time to spend with their children, family members, and friends, all in order to make up for the money that government takes at the point of a gun.

I am old fashioned in thinking that scope and role of the federal government should be limited, as the Founders, some old fashioned, and old, guys thought.

I am old fashioned in thinking that communities, churches, and local and state governments should be the ones helping the People out, and that people should try and be civil to each other.

Yes, call me old fashioned. I am also old fashioned in thinking that politicians should have principles guiding their lives, rather then just going out and saying whatever is necessary to gain power for powers sake. And, were I a liberal, I would probably sue Howard Dean and the DNCers for their study which engages in inappropriate ageism. Of course, these same liberals whine incessantly, complaining that people do not want to vote for Barack Obama because he is Black, and Hillary Clinton because she is a woman, rather then the obvious, and real cause, namely that they are far left, big government liberals who want to tax you to the point that you have to work 20 hours a day just to be able to afford food, and want to create a Nanny State where you are told what you can and cannot think and say.

Yes, I am old fashioned. I believe in the idea of personal responsibility, rather then someone else making my decisions for me like I was a 3 year old, which is the Democrats vision for the future.

John Hawkins is taking the high road in refusing to mention Obama’s racist pastor and such during the election season.
