SM Friday: House To Do Important Business On In-Flight Calls!

 SurrenderMonkey Legislation

This one thrills the Surrender Monkey. Nothing he likes better then when important legislation, such as, oh, allowing American companies to search for new oil sources on American property, is ignored in favor of a feel good measure: In-flight Cell Call Ban Advances in Congress

A bill that would stifle in-flight cellular calls despite emerging technologies that finally make them feasible is headed for the U.S. House of Representatives.

The proposed Halting Airplane Noise to Give Us Peace (HANG UP) Act was approved by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on a voice vote Thursday. It would make permanent the long-standing ban on such calls by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Federal Communications Commission. The next stop for the bill will be the full House, after which companion legislation would also have to be passed by the Senate and signed by President George W. Bush. A companion measure has been introduced as part of an FAA reauthorization measure in the Senate.

Phew! I was worried that the airlines were going to allowed to run their businesses like private citizens for a moment there. Good thing the United States Democrat Party led Congress is there to dictate to them, eh? Surrendie loves when Democrats use the imperial “We” and stifle freedom. And the bill was sponsored by a Democrat, too!

“Polls show the public overwhelmingly doesn’t want to be subjected to people talking on their cell phones on increasingly over-packed airplanes. However, with Internet access just around the corner on U.S. flights, it won’t be long before the ban on voice communications on in-flight planes is lifted,” Peter DeFazio (D-Or)said in a statement. Cash-strapped airlines could end up charging some passengers to use their phones while charging others to sit in a phone-free section of the plane, he said.

The bill, designated H.R. 5788, wouldn’t ban Internet access, e-mail or text-messaging.

Polls also show an overwhelming number of Americans want our oil companies to drill on our property, but Her Royal Majesty Nancy and the Democrats won’t even allow a vote. Even in California, Queen Nancy’s home state, they favor more drilling.

Personally, I think this is an issue that McCain can exploit if he wants to in the election. In fact, I think McCain needs to HAMMER this point home.

I have a cousin who lives in Alaska who is a total lib, and even she thinks the ban on drilling in ANWR and the arguments against it that are made by those on the left are completely ridiculous.

  2. I wish he would. He seems to finally be on the attack, which, I hope is on purpose. He and his campaign start hitting Obama as soon as people really start to find out who he is, and McCain can exploit it at a time where people might remember.
