Oh, no, forest fires! So says the headline Global Warming Boosts Forest Fire Risk
Global warming and past management practices are making forests in the Western United States more susceptible to fire, according to a report released Thursday.
Wait a minute. They aren’t supposed to decrease their case with “past management practices” line. It is supposed to be all AGW’s fault!
Large wildfires, like two that burned thousands of acres in Utah last year, are blamed for making climate change worse and putting unnatural stress on ecosystems, the National Wildlife Federation report said.
Say what? Like that has never happened before the supposed “climate change” started in the late 80’s?
The report, “Increased Risk of Catastrophic Wildfires: Global Warming’s Wake-Up Call for the Western United States,” claims global warming is increasing the risk of fires because of rising temperatures, drier conditions, more lightning from stronger storms, added dry fuel for fires and a longer fire season.
Uh, what has created unsafe factors is not management, but extreme environmentalists who have fought to make sure that brush, dead trees, dried leaves, etc and so on, can not be cleared, creating massive fires out of what could have been small ones. Not to mention their abject opposition to firebreaks.
Those factors have combined with decades of fire-suppression tactics that allowed unsafe fuel loads to accumulate, as well as severe bark-beetle infestations that are rapidly decimating trees and ever-expanding human settlements in and near forests, the report said. “The result is increasing vulnerability to major fires.”
Fire suppression tactics would be what the extreme enviro’s have been against.
Much of the global warming debate is perhaps best described as a constant outbidding by frantic campaigners, producing a barrage of ever-more scary scenarios in an attempt to get the public to accept their civilisation-changing proposals. Unfortunately, the general public – while concerned about the environment – is distinctly unwilling to support questionable solutions with costs running into tens of trillions of pounds. Predictably, this makes the campaigners reach for even more outlandish scares.
Environmental concerns are great. I have no problem spending money there. AGW? A pantload that the disciples and pushers do not live their lives to minimize.
These alarmist predictions are becoming quite bizarre, and could be dismissed as sociological oddities, if it weren’t for the fact that they get such big play in the media. Oliver Tickell, for instance, writes that a global warming causing a 4C temperature increase by the end of the century would be a “catastrophe” and the beginning of the “extinction” of the human race. This is simply silly.
Most of it is pretty silly. Particularly, as noted, that those who believe in it fail to live the life.
And the birds?
Climate change is causing familiar British birds to lay their eggs earlier, according to a survey of UK bird populations.
Must be Man’s fault. That is the only rational explanation. Just because it certainly happened while they were growing wine in the UK during the Global Climate Optimum is no reason not to blame Man.
