I don’t write enough about the sports I love. In this case, my ECU Pirates (hence the blog name) beat Virginia Tech
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer was beaten at his own game.
Just when it appeared “Beamer Ball,” was about to bail out a sluggish offense again on Saturday, it was East Carolina, not the Hokies, who came up with the big special-teams play.
And after T.J. Lee returned his own blocked punt 27 yards for a touchdown with 1:52 left in a 27-22 upset win over the 17th-ranked Hokies, Beamer and Hokies were stunned.
“It hurts to lose on a blocked kick at the end,” Beamer said.
“It’s a story of a group of young men that have come together and said, ‘We’re tired of losing. We want to accomplish something special,'” said (ECU head coach Skip)Â Holtz, who has led the Pirates to consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 1999-2000. “Their working very hard for that on the field and I’m very proud of them.”
Great start, guys! Keep it up!
I watched bits of it. I admit that I am not a big fan of factory college football. But when a small school puts it on a “powerhouse” I find it rewarding. I guess it’s the “buck the system” thing.
I grew up in NC Montana, next to Canada, and am a hockey fan. Go Habs!
Other then ECU games, I pretty much watch no other college football, unless I am sitting in a bar or restaurant or friends casa. Hockey, now, even though I am a monster Devils fan, I can watch any game.
Teach, I had no idea you were an ECU fan. Congrats!
I’m a Louisville Cardinal fan myself, being from Louisville. We just got are rear-ends handed to us by the University of Kentucky (27 – 2). Embarrassing…
Oops… I meant ‘Our’.
I’ve seen ECU play Louisville a few times in the past. Sorry about the score this weekend.
