Take that, illegal alien supports! Pow, pow!
A federal appeals court on Wednesday upheld an Arizona law that penalizes businesses that knowingly hire illegal immigrants and requires them to verify the employment status of their workers.
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decision rejected a challenge by business and civil-rights groups that contend the law infringes on federal immigration powers.
The law, intended to lessen the economic incentive for immigrants to sneak into the country, imposes civil penalties on employers by suspending or revoking their business licenses when they are found to have knowingly hired illegal immigrants.Â
One thing that confuses me is that it is a federal requirement to see if a person is eligible to work in the USA by filling out an I-9. Do States not get that same information already? Of course, a State is in a better position to verify and make sure that an employer is not fraudulently filling out an I-9.
Nice to know that a court, particularly the notorious 9th Circuit, agrees that government can fine companies who knowingly break the law.
