Obama: Lawfull Gun Owners Have Nothing To Fear

The Messiah Speaks (must type in capitals when speaking about Him)

cat gunAs gun sales shoot up around the country, President-elect Barack Obama said Sunday that gun-owning Americans do not need to rush out and stock up before he is sworn in next month.

“I believe in common-sense gun safety laws, and I believe in the second amendment,” Obama said at a news conference. “Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear. I said that throughout the campaign. I haven’t indicated anything different during the transition. I think people can take me at my word.”

Oh, really?

But National Rifle Association spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said it’s not Obama’s words — but his legislative track record — that has gun-buyers flocking to the stores.

“Prior to his campaign for president, his record as a state legislator and as a U.S. Senator shows he voted for the most stringent forms of gun control, the most Draconian legislation, gun bans, ammunition bans and even an increase in federal excise taxes up to 500 percent for every gun and firearm sold,” Arulanandam said.

Sometimes words really don’t matter.

“Anyone who thinks they need to rush out and buy a firearm clearly has not been paying attention to how quickly we make progress on this issue” said Peter Hamm, spokesman for the Brady Campaign against Gun Violence. “We don’t think these are first-time buyers. We think they are people who already have more than enough guns at their homes to protect themselves and are buying more.”

I’m a first time gun owner, so, I guess that blows that out of the water. 41 years old, and bought me first gun a couple Mondays ago, after going and applying for my handgun permit the Friday after the election. Took longer then 7 days for the background because so many folks do not believe Obama’s words. Nice little Walther P22. Good starter gun, small, and the ammo is really inexpensive, which is why I got a .22. And, if the legislation starts passing (more worried about the Congress then Barry), I will get another permit and get a higher caliber, probably a Walther P99 (.40 S&W).

Jennifer at Wizbang points out that sales jumped nearly 49% due to fears of what Barry and the Dem Congress may due. (BTW, Wizbang is holding a competition for someone to take Jay Tea’s place, so, go leave a comment and good feedback for Jennifer.)

I cannot stop recommending my Walther PPS, but anything in the Walther line-up seems to be a good thing.

That said, congratulations on your first purchase – be careful, exercising your rights can prove to be addictive over time :).

  3. You’re quite welcome, Jennifer. I think you are doing a great job at Wizbang, hopefully you will get the gig. Thought about trying out myself, but, too many irons in the fire. Hope you become a regular at Wizbang!

I love shooting it, Linoge. Feels kinda weird when I am on the range, and guys are shooting higher calibers and making big holes, but, then I go back to the counter and get a couple more boxes of ammo while they are leaving.

It’s a good starter gun. I’ve done some shooting, but, for my own, a good choice.
