Sigh. CHRISTMAS LIGHTS ‘OFFEND NEIGHBOURS’
A MOTHER was told to remove her Christmas lights – in case they offended non-Christian neighbours.
Dorothy Glenn decorates her home with illuminations every year, including a giant tree and a 4ft Santa.
But this year she was stunned when a housing association worker called at her house and told her that the decorations she was displaying might be offending her neighbours.
The mother of three said at her home in South Shields, Tyneside: “I put the lights up in the first week of November and then recently a uniformed housing worker was outside and it looked like he was counting my decorations.
“When I went outside he said that the lights were ‘offensive to the community.’
Mrs. Glenn told them to bugger off (the story is from England, of course), and that the lights would stay up. And then the people in her community rallied to her cause, people of all faiths, and the council backed off and rescinded their PC demand. So, for a change, this story ends on a happy note, but, was it really necessary to attempt to ban the lights in the first place?
Not any different than banning a crucifix in a British prison on the advice of… wait for it.. an Imam. Glad to see that some in Britain are fighting back. I’m worried it is too little too late for them…
Funny, we are curbing behavior *in case* we offend another…I say take it up a notch.
I want to ban women from wearing perfume…make it a hate crime it they do so in an elevator.
I am offended at speedos on men, especially if they are over 5…
I am offended by handles on front doors other than knobs, they just don’t keep the harmony…
I am offended at the color red, as the natives were belittled by this color, so nothing should be red again…
I am offended that the world is hostage to the liberal pc crowd. I am offended but perhaps time will be against my voice as the only ones being respectful will loose their rights for anything.
I think that in large cities, slowly women will be required to cover their hair, like muslims do… The first lady did so as did Nancy Pelosi(I get respecting traditions of another country…but when it diminishes what we stand for or have fought for then no).
When we creep on this path of *in case we offend someone* it is too late.
Enough rambling~
Jennifer
Duncan, you are correct. But, it probably is too late for England. Too many PC weenies.
LOL, Jennifer. And you are exactly correct. Where does it all stop?
