Uh oh. After all this time of Democrats/liberals/progressives telling us that they think for themselves, no one, no one, damnitall! tells them what to think, say, and/or write, well, not so much
For the past two years, several hundred left-leaning bloggers, political reporters, magazine writers, policy wonks and academics have talked stories and compared notes in an off-the-record online meeting space called JournoList.
Proof of a vast liberal media conspiracy?
Not at all, says Ezra Klein, the 24-year-old American Prospect blogging wunderkind who formed JournoList in February 2007. “Basically,†he says, “it’s just a list where journalists and policy wonks can discuss issues freely.â€
Perhaps, but, it is very strange that so many lefties kept this secret (and, like Ed Morrissey, I’m betting Michael Calderone isn’t going to be Mr. Popular with the liberal journalistas) and it involves, strangley, so many in the liberal media. But, surely, if it is no big deal, they would be will to talk about it, right? Well, not so much
POLITICO contacted nearly three dozen current JList members for this story. The majority either declined to comment or didn’t respond to interview requests — and then returned to JList to post items on why they wouldn’t be talking to POLITICO about what goes on there.
As Jeff Goldstein writes “The first rule of JournoList Club is that you don’t talk about JournoList Club…” And, maybe like with Prop 8, we should out all the folks participating.(?)
Warner Todd Huston: But don’t worry, this “journolist” is no great cabal of underground left-wing plotters attempting to co-opt the message emanating from the bowls of the Old Media. We know this cuz they told us so!
Anyhow, reading the rest of the story, makes it look like JournoList is pretty much the Democratic Underground for the more elite DUmmies.
