You can bet these scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee will be personally insulted and said to be in the pay of Big Oil or Big Coal or something. UW-Milwaukee Study Could Realign Climate Change Theory
The bitter cold and record snowfalls from two wicked winters are causing people to ask if the global climate is truly changing.
The climate is known to be variable and, in recent years, more scientific thought and research has been focused on the global temperature and how humanity might be influencing it.
However, a new study by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee could turn the climate change world upside down.
Scientists at the university used a math application known as synchronized chaos and applied it to climate data taken over the past 100 years.
“Imagine that you have four synchronized swimmers and they are not holding hands and they do their program and everything is fine; now, if they begin to hold hands and hold hands tightly, most likely a slight error will destroy the synchronization. Well, we applied the same analogy to climate,” researcher Dr. Anastasios Tsonis said.
Scientists said that the air and ocean systems of the earth are now showing signs of synchronizing with each other.
Eventually, the systems begin to couple and the synchronous state is destroyed, leading to a climate shift.
“In climate, when this happens, the climate state changes. You go from a cooling regime to a warming regime or a warming regime to a cooling regime. This way we were able to explain all the fluctuations in the global temperature trend in the past century,” Tsonis said. “The research team has found the warming trend of the past 30 years has stopped and in fact global temperatures have leveled off since 2001.”
The most recent climate shift probably occurred at about the year 2000.
Deniers! Heretics! Burn them at the stake!

Actually, science encourages dissent. The only catch is that the dissenting view must also be critical of their own view, and must be able to prove their research with statistically valid results of some kind. If this is the case, they’ll be able to publish their findings in a respectable scientific journal, and will indeed change the way we think about our climate. In this endeavor, I wish them the best. However, if their hypothesis is unable to be verified, they must be willing to set it aside.
This is where many skeptics fall short. Only a few, such as Christy and Spencer, are going about this the right way (through scientific experimentation). The rest of the “skeptical scientists” are either not actually climate scientists, or are only making political arguments, based on red herrings and anecdotal evidence, rather than trying to prove any alternative hypothesis through scientific research.
So, long story short, as long as these guys are approaching this scientifically, I support their efforts.
Science may encourage dissent, but the Believers in AGW sure do not.
It depends on the nature of the dissent. It must be funneled through the proper channels, and followed up with some form of proof. If you are making baseless, scientifically invalid accusations and assertions, then no, you will not be encouraged. However, if you are a scientist, who is formulating an alternative hypothesis about how our climate has warmed, and have provided published research to back it up, then yes, this would be encouraged.
You fall into the former category. This is why you meet so much dissent from people like me. You are being persecuted for stating the truth. Your misinformed arguments are simply being refuted with real science.
