Saw X-Men Origins: Wolverine this afternoon, and it is well worth seeing in the theaters. Does a great job of mixing action and dialogue, building up the story of how Wolverine came to be, and how he lost his memory. Of course, it isn’t quite perfect, in keeping with the original comics, but, hell of a good story, especially since the comics do not quite deal with his memory loss that much.
Give it a B, see it in the theater.
One shame is, they X Men movie creators kinda backed themselves into a wall by making Rogue, one of the most interesting X Men characters, so you during the 3 movies. Good girl, bad girl, sometimes very bad girl. Would have made a heck of a movie. They can’t really do Jean Grey/Phoenix. The others introduced haven’t been set up to have a good back story, unless they want to go with Mystique. Perhaps introducing a new character, such as Ms. Marvel?
Two other things: 1st, saw the preview for the new Ice Age movie. How is it appropriate for kids to see a character unintentionally “milk” a male oxen? No, seriously. It’s not rated yet, but, they consider this for kids/family.
Second, the trailer for Terminator 4 looked kinda, lame. Sure, lots of action, things blowing up, fighting, but, it seems to be missing the inter-personal exchanges that were a huge part of the first 3. Think about it: first one was about Sarah Conner, the relationship between her and Kyle, and the coming war. Second was about John Conner growing up, Sarah Conner, and trying to stop the war from happening. The 3rd was about John Conner, his relationship with Kate, and the war starting. Lots of people interacting and developing. The trailer for 4 didn’t seem to have any of that. Maybe the movie will surprise. Maybe not.
BTW, I still feel a little ill from all that butter and salt in the popcorn
Good. I was going to see it but was somewhat worried after reading alot of negative reviews. I am looking for a great movie to go watch and be entertained, not preached to about torture, the Iraq War, my inner child or how great Sean Penn can act….
I thought it was well worth it. I left satisfied, and anticipating the next one.
I can still feel the butter today, though. Urp! ;)
It sounds like a good movie, Teach. My boys have been asking me to see it. Do you think it’s OK for an 11 and a 13-year old?
Yeah, it should be good for them. Lots of fighting and such, but, really, very, very little blood. I’d say it is a mild PG. They probably see worse on network TV. Not even much in the way of bad words. Off hand, I can’t remember bad words. They should be OK.
That’s good to know. I know they are excited about seeing it. Thanks!
