Apparently, NY Times writer David M. Herszenhorn just heard of this interesting proposition: taxing “the rich” to pay for health care. Among everything else they are supposed to pay for, of course. Maybe David just graduated from college, and was too busy partying to have heard of this, but, regardless, his first paragraph is a hoot
House Democrats will ask the wealthiest Americans to help pay for overhauling the health care system with a $550 billion income tax increase, the chairman of the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee said Friday.

There is no asking. There will be no check box on their tax forms asking if they would like to pay a slightly higher rate so that grasshoppers, illegals, and people who could afford health insurance but do not feel like paying for it, will get health insurance. They will just jack up taxes. Which should do wonders for small businesses.
“In the middle of a serious recession, with unemployment nearing double digits, the last thing we need is a tax increase on small businesses, which will cost the American economy even more jobs,†said Michael Steel, a spokesman for the House Republican leader, Representative John A. Boehner of Ohio.
Good news, Mr. Boehner! The Democrat leadership is looking to divert tons of TARP money to small businesses in an attempt to create some jobs, any jobs. Then, as Gaius points out, these same small businesses will be taxed to death to pay for grasshopper health care. This would also give Government more control over the means of production. Get ’em coming and going.
