President Delusion Says Stimulus Has Already Worked

I remember going in to NYC one weekend with a bunch of friends, back when I was a senior in high school (yes, that was a while ago. Ha ha. Thanks). We were at a spot getting a bite to eat, while watching this guy walk all the way around  building while keeping both hands on it. Obviously, a little wacked out.

As we were leaving to go down to the Village, we asked on of the cops who was watching this guy what the deal is. He said “PCP. It’s easier to let him wind down. He keeps muttering about Jack and the Beanstalk.” The point of this story? At least that guy had an excuse for his delusion

President Barack Obama said his $787 billion stimulus bill “has worked as intended” as he pushed back against Republican criticism that his recovery program has failed to rescue the economy.

“It has already extended unemployment insurance and health insurance to those who have lost their jobs in this recession,” Obama, who is traveling today in Ghana, said in his weekly Saturday radio and Web address. “It has delivered $43 billion in tax relief to American working families and business.”

Yet, the point of Porkulus was, nominally and in public, to stimulate the economy and create an atmosphere where jobs were created, as well as directly creating jobs. Jobs are still being lost, and predictions are that jobs will continue to be lost into 2010.

Even if we want to go with Obama’s remark about a “stimulus being about spending, that’s the whole point,” it fails, since only around 6% of the money allocated has been spent, and quite a bit of that went to government agencies who already have their own workers.

In the weekly Republican response, House Minority Whip Eric Cantor of Virginia said the stimulus bill was “full of pork- barrel spending, government waste and massive borrowing cleverly called ‘stimulus.’”

“The plain truth is that President Obama’s economic decisions have not produced jobs, have not produced prosperity, and have not worked,” Cantor said.

Hmm, might it be that the Generational Theft Act has made things worse?

In asking for public patience, Obama said the recovery act “wasn’t designed to restore the economy to full health on its own, but to provide the boost necessary to stop the free fall.”

If that is what he believes feels, then why was it necessary to ram the Stimulus through Congress without allowing anyone to read the legislation? Might it not have been better to craft a better bill, be deliberative?

Obama said the measure “was not designed to work in four months — it was designed to work over two years.”

The spending plan will “accelerate greatly” through the summer and autumn, creating “thousands more infrastructure projects” that will lead to additional jobs, he said.

And that is part of his point: to dump money into the economy as the mid-term elections are coming up, and tout any successes as Democrat successes. Meanwhile, the legislation that HAD to be passed without being read or OMG THE WORLD WILL END is watching consumer confidence drop, companies go down the drain, unemployment rise, and Americans have less and less spending money.
