Didn’t they know that they were supposed to nash their teeth, decry what Mankind was doing to Gaia, and hold awareness rallies? Climate study puts Incas’ success down to 400 years of warm weather
Supreme military organisation and a flair for agricultural invention are traditionally credited for the rise of the Incas. However, their success may have owed more to a spell of good weather — a spell that lasted for more than 400 years.
According to new research, an increase in temperature of several degrees between AD1100 and 1533 allowed vast areas of mountain land to be used for agriculture for the first time. This fuelled the territorial expansion of the Incas, which at its peak stretched from the modern Colombian border to the middle of Chile.
“Yes, they were highly organised, and they had a sophisticated hierarchical system, but it wouldn’t have counted a jot without being underpinned by the warming of the climate,†says Dr Alex Chepstow-Lusty, a palaeo-ecologist from the French Institute for Andean Studies in Lima, Peru.
Can’t blame their fall on the Little Ice Age, as it was the Spaniards who were at fault, but, it is interesting that their society rose during a warm period. Also of interest, the rise of current modern society has occured during a warming period that started in the mid-1800’s, at the end of the Little Ice Age. All those darned SUVs moving Union and Confederate soldiers was an offense against Mother Nature.

Those selfish Incan Indians.
Maybe this is what started the term, Indian Givers?
Darn right, how dare they thrive in warm temperatures, when it does nothing to help the AGW cause?
This warm period also nearly destroyed the mayan civilization. Oh and did you see the data for June 2009 ?? It was the 2nd warmest ever reorded even though US temps were normalhttp://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/research/2009/jun/jun09.html
And the link doesn’t work. Like the AGW logic, it’s untenable.
June was warmer, where? It was colder here in PA, and July has been about normal. I am praying for a hot August so I can swim more this summer.
And the science is still disproving that man had anything to do with temperature fluctuation.

John, the Incan society was destroyed primarily due to the coming of the Spaniards, who brought war and disease.
Regarding June, I thought you folks said that was weather? If you want to go down that route, look at the link about 3,000 low records set in July.
Now, weather makes climate through long term trends. And, John, I do not disagree that the Earth’s climate has warmed a little. I disagree that it is primarily or solely Man’s fault.
For Raleigh in June, the average temp (called climate) is 75 degrees. This June, we were at 77 degrees. Consider, though, that rain fall was way down, meaning less clouds. For July, we normally are at 79 degrees. So far, we have averaged 76.9 degrees. So, one month up 2, one month down 2.
I loved being in Jersey visiting my parents this month, Trish. We actually had the windows open all day long, and were able to sleep in the nice cool temps. Haven’t seen that in a NJ summer in a very long time.
all local weather inputs. NOAA says that June was the second warmest on the planet ever recorded.
Nice Teach, but wish I had known you were up north, could have invited you to come up to a rally!
NJ can be almost as oppressive as PA in July/August, exception the ocean breezes, but lucky for the timing of your visit there was low humidity and we had those really nice breezes here for once!
It sure wasn’t the warmest ever here in NC, John.
Would have loved that, Trish. Was playing very bad golf :)
Bad golf is better than no golf at all, yes?
Next time you are up, let me know and I will give you details of our rallies!
