Racists. Fascists. Nazis. Mobs. Manufactured outrage. Dupes of Big Pharma. Completely fake. Astroturfed. Just a few of the words used against the people who are out there protesting against government run health system overhaul. Yet…..
The outcome of the health-care debate weighed partially on Bird’s success (Jeremy Bird is deputy director of OFA), and on the effectiveness of Organizing for America (OFA) in general. When Bird was named deputy director of OFA last year, he became the vanguard of much more than 13 million e-mail addresses collected from supporters during Obama’s campaign. He became one of the people most responsible for validating Obama’s campaign ethos: that grass-roots support can power government and shape legislation.
It is a theory that now faces a defining test. Conservatives have waged an angry and effective battle against Obama’s health-care legislation, and OFA has responded by asking its volunteers to visit congressional offices and flood town hall meetings in a massive show of support. This month, Obama sent an e-mail to OFA members: “This is the moment our movement was built for,” he wrote.
“We need to flex our muscles on this, and we need to act fast,” he said. “We always said in the campaign that this was not just about one election but about a chance to make some major changes. Well, here’s the chance.”
No, no, this couldn’t be a directed effort to gin up support for what the Democrats want to do, is it? Certainly, a great organization like the Democratic National Committee wouldn’t be trying to organize and create a grassroots movement, would they? That would be, oh, kinda fake, wouldn’t it?
Meanwhile, back on August 15th, the NY Times informed us that these kinds of emails and attempted community organization was pretty much failing.
One of the issues facing the ObamaZombies is that they are giving short talking points, most of which make no sense, so, when they attempt to explain something
Reduce costs — Rising health care costs are crushing the budgets of governments, businesses, individuals, and families, and they must be brought under control
How are these plans going to do that without creating rationing? BTW, if government cannot control its own costs for just themselves, how are they going to do it for everyone else?
Guarantee choice — Every American must have the freedom to choose their plan and doctor – including the choice of a public insurance option
But, if you or the company you work for decide to make any tiny change to your current insurance plan, you and they will have no choice but to chose from the approved plans through the gateway. Will your doctor accept a plan like this when doctors are already dumping medicare and medicaid in ever growing numbers?
Ensure quality care for all — All Americans must have quality and affordable health care
We see how well this works in countries like Canada, France, and Great Britain, with all their accompanying horror stories. Did you know that in America, breast cancer kills 25%, while in England, 46% die? And that only 19% die in the US from prostate cancer, while a whopping 57% die in England? That should send up a red flag. Damn that quality health care in England!
Anyhow, the DNC has all Obama’s peeps organized, providing them with talking points and action items. Nope, no astroturf there!
