The question is, is this something they will actually do, and, why are they doing it now?
Republican attorneys general in 13 states say congressional leaders must remove Nebraska’s political deal from the federal health care overhaul bill or face legal action, according to a letter provided to The Associated Press Wednesday.
“We believe this provision is constitutionally flawed,” South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster and the 12 other attorneys general wrote in the letter to be sent Wednesday night to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
“As chief legal officers of our states we are contemplating a legal challenge to this provision and we ask you to take action to render this challenge unnecessary by striking that provision,” they wrote.
This is similar to the debate over the abortion measures the Democrats want in the bill – federal funding and forcing private insurers to pay for them – in that even if you remove those specific measures, the legislation is still a monstrosity that needs to be killed in its entirety, then we can start over and craft something that would actually reduce costs without putting the government in charge, raising taxes, and putting Los Federales in charge of our health care, among others.
Furthermore, if they want to challenge, they should do it after the bill is signed, thereby killing it. 78% say the Democrats plan will cost more than projected. 52% fear they will be forced to change insurers. And 58% oppose this legislation, 46% strongly oppose it. Announcing lawsuits in federal court after it is signed would go a long way towards listening to The People, something Democrats surely are not doing.
