Sigh. Crystal ball time
Heat-related deaths, the spread of infectious diseases and the threat of natural disasters in Chicago could skyrocket in the coming decades unless greenhouse gas emissions are curbed, according to the U.S. Global Change Research Program.
In the 2009 report, projections for Chicago suggest that the average number of deaths due to heat waves could quadruple by 2050. The Chicago Climate Action Plan said greenhouse emissions could jump 35 percent by that time.
Heat waves are the leading cause of weather-related deaths across the country. In July 1995, an extreme heat wave hit Chicago, killing over 750 people and hospitalizing thousands more. Projections from the Chicago Climate Task-Force show that heat waves as severe as the 1995 event could occur as frequently as every other year by the end of the century.
Uh huh.
During the Battle of Monmouth, June 28,1778, the day was almost, if not higher, then 100 degrees. Almost as many, if not more, men lost their lives to heat stroke then to battle related injuries.
This was during the time known as the Little Ice Age, which wouldn’t end till around the 1850’s. Remember Washington’s crossing of the Delaware, and how cold that winter was?
Or how about the 1901 heat wave, where around 9,500 Americans died? Not much time for the industrial revolution to get going. And, you had the Galveston hurricane in 1900, a supposed category 5.
There was also a large heat wave, with over 900 deaths in the US, in 1972, a few years prior to the media wondering if we were entering a new ice age. Hey, maybe we could blame the Jersey Shore shark attacks of 1916 on global warming, er, climate change? Or, perhaps Chicago could worry about something real, like it’s murder rate. There were 510 murders in Chicago alone in 2008, which is still more than the predicted “climate change deaths” for 2055, per the graphic with the top article. And then there are the rapes, robberies, burglaries, car jackings, aggravated assault, arson, etc.
Teach you are still mocking our beloved military who recognize that global climate change will have national security issues. Why do you hate them so much when they are trying to protect us and our freedoms ?http://www.armytimes.com/news/2007/04/military_global_warming_070416/
Monmouth had 25000 men involved. Less than 100 died from non battle causes. This would have included all heat stroke plus whatever else killed people like heart attacks and strokes.
So the Brits lost 69 men killed and 37 from heat stroke, and the Continental army lost 65 killed with 59 dying from heat stroke. I believe that the statement “Almost as many, if not more, men lost their lives to heat stroke then to battle related injuries” is accurate.
Dumb ideas are dumb ideas, John. These “national security issues” are being pushed by Congress on to the military, as well as being pushed by desk bound military folks. Yes, changing climatic conditions can have consequences on national security, doesn’t make it man made conditions.
Yep, being ordered to produce such a report by the politicos, is tantamount to the TRUTH.
What Bullshit.
