Why, yes, there is a story to go with the image
About two dozen women marched topless from Longfellow Square to Tommy’s Park this afternoon (April 3rd) in an effort to erase what they see as a double standard on male and female nudity.
The women, preceded and followed by several hundred boisterous and mostly male onlookers, many of them carrying cameras, stayed on the sidewalk because they hadn’t obtained a demonstration permit to walk in the street. About a thousand people gathered as the march passed through Monument Square, a mix of demonstrators, supporters, onlookers and those just out enjoying a warm and sunny early-spring day.
Ty McDowell, who organized the march, said she was “enraged” by the turnout of men attracted to the demonstration. The purpose, she said, was for society to have the same reaction to a woman walking around topless as it does to men without shirts on.
Say, Ty, exactly what did you think would happen when women are marching topless in the street? Even liberal men turn into pigs where public nudity is concerned.
You gotta love the guy with the camera on the left side. And, guys, just a hint: you aren’t really cool when you take off your shirt to march with the topless gals.
If they look as bad from the front as they do from the back, then you can understand why there are laws.
But I see no reason for our repugnance at nudity of any form. In addition, I am about to go nuts from all the words being beeped from TV programs as they may offend little Timmy. If you don’t like nudity or certain words, don’t look and listen.
Bingo! Quite frankly, I think the violence on TV is much worse than some nudity. Unless I am subjected to Dennis Franz’s naked butt on Hill Street Blues. Nightmare time!
