Are You Psyched For “Draw Mohammed Day”?

I am, though I can’t draw worth a lick. Reason Magazine

Via Dan Savage’s blog at The Stranger, some clever chappie (I don’t know who) has declared May 20, 2010 “Everybody Draw Mohammad Day,” in support of Matt Stone and Trey Parker and in opposition to religious thuggery. Why May 20? I haven’t a clue, though it could have something to do with Otto ascending the throne of Greece. Or, more likely, King Sancho IV of Castile’s founding of the Study of General Schools of Alcalá.

I’m marking the day. Why is this a great idea? For a change, I am in agreement with Allahpundit, you create a massive shared risk. Of course, Ann Althouse is worried about offending the non-violent Muslims. Hey, I sympathize, but, maybe they should get off their collected asses and say they will no longer tolerate the violence in the name of their religion.

Like I said, I can’t draw worth a like, but, I can photoshop. Will a Fatworthy tramp stamp do?

I don’t think it is by gratuitously piling on outrageous expression, because it doesn’t show enough respect and care for the people who are trying to tolerate the expression that outrages them.

A nice sentiment, but off-base. I’m disappointed that Althouse doesn’t seem to understand the crux of the matter — that Moslems have to behave like Westerners in the face of criticism and satire. Suck it up, those so easily offended by a South Park bear — a bear, for pity’s sake.

Those who don’t like the submissions for Draw Mohammed Day can solve all their problems with being offended by not looking at the images. Heh. That’s what I would do on a ridicule-Jesus day.

Why should Mohammedans get special privileges, ever catering to their whining?

Always on Watch – I agree with you, but I have to also note there may have been a hidden meaning in the cartoon… there is a character on the net known as ‘pedobear.’ I find it amusing and probably accurate in light of the pedophilia that goes on in islam.

  3. Excellent points, folks. And this will be a great way to finally get banned in nations other than China and India :)
